BEST BOOSTER? Mix it up — but depends which you had first. Switching vaccine for the booster seems to be the best—Pfizer to Moderna booster, Moderna to Pfizer for booster, and J&J should switch to Moderna / Pfizer booster. HT to @ScientistSwanda. #COVID19#BoosterShots#vaccinate
4) Here are the official eligibility criteria for boosters. Note that Moderna as a booster is a modified 50 mcg. Normal first 2 shots of Moderna is 100 mcg.
5) that said, if you have a cancer or immunocompromised like #MultipleMyeloma, then you should go with the Moderna full dose 100 mcg two shots. Ask your doctor if still possible.
6) Moderna 2 shots (2x 100 mcg) yielded 6x greater antibody response than 2 shots of Pfizer. Might be too late to change; but just FYI for those not vaccinated yet.
7) This booster study (top post) is funded by the NIH. Though keep in mind the Moderna “booster” they tested was the 100 mcg full dose, and not the 50 mcg currently FDA authorized Moderna booster. So while Moderna looks strongest, keep in mind it’s 2x the current booster dose.
8) The study hold a wealth of data on boosters. Really key is that J&J seems to lag all the other boosters in terms of antibody response. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
9) What does booster offer) more than 90% risk reduction in SEVERE DISEASE in Israel 🇮🇱 for those who got 3 Pfizer doses versus 2 doses after 6 months!!! And it benefits both elderly and younger adults!!! Middle age should definitely take booster!
10) This is what happens when nationwide boosters were rolled out in Israel 🇮🇱. Its Delta variant wave stopped soon after.
11) good morning - 100 million at risk Americans can likely get boosters starting today.
12) Forgot to mention - it seems having initial Pfizer doses then switching to Moderna has slightly less severe headache, fatigue, nausea, and myalgia than a 3rd Pfizer dose. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
13) Unpopular thing to utter aloud — but many scientists think 1 dose J&J is way too weak. It should never have been a one dose vaccine in the first place. 2 dose should have been minimum.
📍REINFECTIONS—Many variants have evolved to partially dodge immunity. Waves of reinfections—2-3 times/year may be the future of #COVID19 scientists now fear (& warned since 2020). I’m old enough to remember when others claimed reinfections impossible/rare.nytimes.com/2022/05/16/hea…
2) The central problem is that the coronavirus has become more adept at reinfecting people. Already, those infected with the first Omicron variant are reporting second infections with the newer versions of the variant — BA.2 or BA2.12.1 in the United States, or BA.4 and BA.5.
3) Those people may go on to have third or fourth infections, even within this year, researchers said in interviews. And some small fraction may have symptoms that persist for months or years, a condition known as long Covid.
Let this sink in—more Americans died in the #Omicron wave than it’s first spring 2020 wave. So much for the idiotic “mild” propaganda, and the overconfident “we have the tools” propaganda. Arrogance against #COVID19 is our downfall. #CovidIsNotOver
📍COVID is a “key suspect”—Unexplained severe acute hepatitis cases among children continue to emerge around the world—researchers are pointing to a possible link to #COVID19. Thread🧵 cbc.ca/news/health/se…
2) Research suggests possible link to COVID
A recent American case study analyzed a previously healthy three-year-old girl who developed acute liver failure a few weeks after recovering from a mild COVID infection. journals.lww.com/jpgnr/Fulltext…
3) "The patient had liver biopsy findings and blood testing consistent with a type of autoimmune hepatitis which may have been triggered by COVID infection," said Dr. Anna Peters, a pediatric gastroenterologist at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
What the hell—“What we are calling for is a total ban, no exceptions” said Matt Sande, legislative director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “We don’t think abortion is ever necessary to save the life of the mother.”— why can’t doctors even save lives anymore?!?!🧵 washingtonpost.com/health/2022/05…
2) Idaho Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin called for a special legislative session to remove most exceptions from that state’s “trigger law” banning abortion.
3) In Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, leading Republican gubernatorial candidates have teamed up with antiabortion groups to push bans that would not allow the procedure even if the mother’s health is endangered.
📍The D.C. health department has not shared #COVID data with the CDC since April 27 on the number of new coronavirus cases in the District or on any deaths from the virus, as cases increase around the DC metro region. Local DC health officials are silent. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/…
2) Residents who monitor the CDC data to track the prevalence of the virus in their community have grown increasingly frustrated, with many asking D.C. officials where the numbers are.
“It’s a big problem for residents,” said Eric Toner, a Johns Hopkins University expert
3) “Because the residents have no idea, therefore, how bad the situation is, whether they should be wearing a mask, whether they should be staying at home, whether it’s okay to go to work or the grocery store. Everybody is making these decisions.”
So we can find another $40 billion for war, but can’t find it in our hearts to fund another $10 billion to stop #COVID19 and save lives after 1 million deaths. Got it. 🤦🏻♂️
2) I support the people of Ukraine and refugees, but this package is mostly military aid. Originally the Ukraine and COVID aid were going to be passed together but they dropped that idea to the frustration of many. Why not both???
3) “Top Democrats’ decision to forgo adding $10 billion in Covid health funding to the package — at Republicans’ insistence — has caused consternation among the majority party, since the funding for testing, therapeutics and vaccines now faces an uncertain path to final passage.”
