If we get to work now we could help millions of Floridians over the next decade but we have to believe it’s possible, have the right leaders and the right plan.
Florida will be disproportionately impacted by climate change and the communities with the least resources will be the most impacted.
We need to get to work now to fight for Floridians- not lobbyists, and create an accessible political system to help those who need it most.
We do not have a choice, if Florida is to have a future above water we must get to work now.
Florida faces rampant voter suppression, gun violence, environmental injustice, serious and purposeful issues with our welfare system (thanks to Rick Scott). All of which play into a cycle of injustice in Florida that’s been there for centuries.
Our generations must continue the work of those who’ve come before us and fight to create a more just and democratic sunshine republic. I guarantee you, if we do that, if we build a politics of justice and hope for everyday people with results- we will win.
As Florida goes so goes the country, power is built over decades from the ground up. We need a lot more people running for city council and state government that practice the above philosophy.
So I’m watching @lisaling last episode on conspiracy theories and just heard that in 2021 15% of the American public still believe that the government is controlled by a secret group of pedophiles.
That’s deeply concerning.
You only need 3.5% of the population to overthrow a government and we live in a country with more guns than people.
This is a serious threat to our republic and our national security. We have enough useful idiots and guns for something horrific to happen.
Active measures by the Russian SVR (former KGB) in collaboration with the IRA could weaponize this and get our republic to destroy itself with our firing a single shot.
So I’m in LA for work meetings this weekend- it’s 60-65° - Half the people I’ve met with are in puffer jackets and Uggs.
In the past four years I’ve lived in a place where this happens but when it’s below 75°(Florida) and now I live in Boston where already this semester I’ve seen it be 45° outside and people are in tank tops 😅
I lived in LA until I was 14 so this isn’t super surprising to me I guess I just kind of forgot having been on the East Coast for the past 7 years. I remember when it would rain when I was growing up in LA- it might as well have been a blizzard no one went out no one can drive
Join me tonight at 8pm ET for the first episode of my new weekly twitter space show “Our Time is Now” at for a conversation about Florida local, state and federal politics with:
I’m doing this show as part of a class project so there be a new episode every Thursday night at 8 PM ET for the next couple weeks or so.
The show will mainly be focused on young people in Florida politics, activism and journalism. Hopefully showing people Florida is not a lost cause and inspiring more young people to become politically active.
As part of a class project I'm going to be doing a weekly twitter space interviewing young organizers, elected officials and journalists in the state of FL.
I have two questions:
What should it be called?
Who should would you like me to interview?
Some names I have heard suggested:
-Sawgrass Roots
-The sandbar
-The Florida Reef / The Reef
-Orange Blossoms
-It's not a swamp, it's a river of grass
- Fire coral/ Fire coral chat
-Florida Organizers weekly brief
Suggest more below
The format is not totally set yet- it will probably expand beyond young people. It’s just I want to make sure young people are included in these conversations as we’re often not.
If “god will protect you from Covid so you don’t need a vaccine” why do you need a gun?
Support our work to actually end gun violence by supporting gun reform and addressing the causes of why someone picks up a gun in the first place please consider donating
They were literally chanting "hang mike pence", while wearing "Civil War" t-shirts and were armed. January 6th was an insurrection, do NOT let Republicans rewrite history. If we do, the next insurrection won't be unsuccessful.
