Guess what MoCo? The only person to file the initial statement of intent to run for office is the Chief of Del Rey Oaks PD. @ChiefHoyne
Steve Bernal dropped a bombshell 14 months ahead of the November 2022 election - he isn't running for another term.
Bernal has racked up one
2/ controversy after another with some that may cross a criminal line.
Bernal was ushered into office in 2014 when a group of multi-millionaires (and a billionaire) funneled over $750,000 into the deputy's campaign. Bernal was selected in 2012, filing his FPPC501 statement one
3/ year into then Sheriff Scott Miller's first term.
Bernal's first obstacle in 2012 - he didn't live in the county of Monterey.
Three months prior to the November 2014 election a change of momentum shifted things for right-wing Steve Bernal when @DoloresHuerta shockingly
4/ endorsed the Deputy who by this time had found a "rental" on J. Orradre's sprawling ranch (sprawling is an understatement) in far away South County and surprising close to the border with San Luis Obispo County.
By 2018 the bloom was off the rose for most of Monterey County
5/ as Bernal missteps and misdeeds (chronicled locally by one bulldog journalist @Calkins_Royal - who has been near completely cut out of @MCoSheriff pressers and communication) put pressure on Bernal, the Sheriff's Department and have reportedly strained the Bernal marriage.
6/ Inside sources at the Sheriff's Department are increasingly troubled by @FBI investigations known and unknown to their most senior officers.
The next 12 months are going to be brutal.
We will have to get @ChiefHoyne comment on Commander Joe Banuelos - a former Sgt., Sheriff
7/ Miller fired during his term in an effort to rid the department of bad apples. Banuelos was charged with two felonies and one misdemeanor after SDDA Berk Brannon (whose wife is a judge in Santa Cruz County) pushed hard for the case to go to trial.
At trial, Judge Russ Scott
8/ bounced the case.
@ChiefHoyne should be prepared to answer tough questions in the months ahead.
Another @MCoSheriff command staff dep. is also claiming he will run for the seat Bernal is vacating. Jose Mendoza. Sources have told me Mendoza isn't the guy they want.

This is a blast from the past in @MCoSheriff office politics. The guy on the far right, literally, is fired/disgraced menace Mike Richards, Dave Drew's best friend in law enforcement.
cops for wearing their complete uniform in political ads. These geniuses took a sharpie to their photo/art to obscure Monterey County and call it good. Think they care about the law?
In Scott Davis defense, I never heard anything criminal about him and he is a politically
3/
ambitious guy, in other words, while some of his conduct violated parts of the policy manual in these political ads, it was low hanging fruit. And I hate low hanging fruit.
Scott Davis, who may run for Sheriff again, is standing next to Byrl Smith in the center.
Californians, Ill try to Twitter'splain one of what I believe are @CASenCaballero's criminal conduct going back to 2001-2006. Gerry Kehoe, a Key West bar owner landed on Salinas and purchase a building in Oldtown Salinas. A bank building at 201 Main. The guy refinanced his house
in Key West FL but claimed to be the CEO of Berkley Jury's Doyle - a foreign major hotel operator in the early 2000s.
Kehoe lied. He submitted forged and fraudulent documents to the @CityofSalinas as part of a bona fides package, to get into a contract with the public entity.
Kehoe's fraud succeeded but something mysterious was discovered. CITY HALL was in on the fraud and this included people like them Mayor @CASenCaballero and others, Janet Barnes, Jyl Lutes ... some real sleazy pols on the end.
"City staff said, in a press release Wednesday, that Dayspring had lied on his application. Dayspring admitted to tax fraud and bribery in a July plea agreement. The press release did not say why staff had taken so long to act on the news."
This is the situation with @DavidDr34643165 and Monterey County. When Scott Miller was running for @MCoSheriff, I had @Calkins_Royal and others publish information about Dave giving money to local politicians, like Dennis Donohue (Mayor of Salinas) and then Sheriff Mike Kanalakis
2/
After that information was published Dave and his buddies, like Mike Richards, laid into the Scott Miller campaign and helped coordinate four years of oppo style campaign operations - against Sheriff Scott Miller. (we beat Kanalakis who was corrupt).
The point that was
3/
missed by low-brows like Dave and his followers (looking at you @Kelly_McMillin) is that I had assembled a team of people working solely on PUBLIC CORRUPTION while Miller was Sheriff. Through the Sheriff much of the material was made available to the @FBISanFrancisco.
So there I was getting a rapid COVID test (sold out) and who do I see? The guy who dumped #Salinas for #Marijuana.
Now I've known this sick puppy since 1988 when he was hired by SPD. He tries to
2/
shake my hand after calling me by name, the old pleasantries, and I told him to take his hand back, I'm not shaking it and he immediately blows up. Gets in my face and flips me off, comes up nose to nose with me like he wants to punch me and I ask him what's going on with
3/
the marijuana business and he is still yelling fuck you's and calling me an asshole. (This is a complete change from the 32 years I've know the scumbag) and he is still throwing F bombs, crying out "why don't you go back to your basement and get on Twitter". 😂
