Study points to possible Covid brain damage mechanism:

Covid protein (protease) cuts a protein (NEMO) important in cells forming the walls of small capilaries of the brain (endothelial cells). This results in cell death and loss of capilaries.

rdcu.be/cz1Ee
"We obtained evidence that brain endothelial cells are infected and that the main protease of SARS-CoV-2 (Mpro) cleaves NEMO, the essential modulator of nuclear factor-κB.

2/
Loss of cells lining the walls of capillaries in the brain makes them unable to cary blood—harming the brain. What is left are called "string vessels" and are found in increased numbers in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's

Important example of the failure of current school guidelines. Wishful thinking doesn't work in a pandemic. This is not just in Ireland.

Systemic physiological harm can be mapped to aging. This study shows evidence goes far beyond a general mapping to molecular markers:

Evidence for Biological Age Acceleration and Telomere Shortening in COVID-19 Survivors

Figures explained in thread
1/
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
Black dashed line in the figure shows the direct correlation of chronological age (horizontal axis) with genetic age markers (vertical axis) for uninfected individuals (blue), and significant departure for infected individuals (red) especially for younger individuals.

2/
This figure shows the same results but after subtracting the chronological age. The age difference that results across the population is

10.45 ± 7.29 years (+5.25 years above the range of normality) compared with 3.68 ± 8.17 years for COVID-19-free population (p < 0.0001)
