1.This Wednesday the Government will publish the Autumn Spending Review and Budget; an opportunity to demonstrate their public spending commitments to tackling the #ClimateEmergency #NatureEmergency and #JustTransition

Here’s what you should look out for:

A press briefing🧵
2.Greenpeace analysis suggests the Chancellor should prioritise
🔎 green homes
🔎 clean transport
🔎 nature
🔎 circular economy
🔎 support for workers transitioning to green jobs
3. In the next 3 years, an extra £73bn of public investment will be needed to meet these priorities.

And if they are met, they have the potential to create 1.8m green jobs over the course of 4 years.
4. As well as priorities, there are some major 🚩🚩🚩 to look out for
5. New nuclear – Nuclear is more than 2x the cost per unit power generated than renewable energy. Studies show that for the entire UK energy system, no new nuclear after Hinkley Point C is required to keep the lights on and be the lowest cost path to meeting carbon budget targets
6. 🔵Blue🔵 hydrogen – This fossil fuel derived hydrogen is not compatible with net zero and should not be part of a Net Zero Strategy.
BUT In parts of the economy that will be difficult to electrify,🟢green🟢 hydrogen (derived from renewable energy) could play an important role.
7. New roads - The £27bn Road Investment Strategy undermines the Government’s ambition to cut emissions from transport (or at all). Road building has low job creation potential and unproved economic impact.

8. Carbon Offsetting (aka. CO2lonialsim) - Is unreliable, creates social injustice and biodiversity loss. Rather than externalizing our emissions, the government must focus on direct domestic reductions (e.g. insulating homes).

9. Slashing the aid budget – The UK has a historic responsibility to financially support the world's poorest countries that are on the frontline of the climate crisis. Being a global leader requires stepping up financial support, not stripping it back. 🇬🇧🤔
10. For more in-depth analysis of the key priorities, red flags and our tax considerations, see the full press briefing ⬇ a very practical guide for how the government can #StopFailingUs
