I keep using the word "bizarre" in my #WLhistory book and thinking "surely there must be another word I can use"? But nope. This whole saga has been totally bizarre for over 10 years... 🧵 #FreeASSANGE
Starting with two Swedish women throwing themselves at Assange just as he was releasing major leaks in 2010, then going to the cops, then their "case" being re-opened a day after it was closed (by politically connected lawyers)...
Then Assange's laptops disappearing on his flight from Sweden, never to be seen again. Then he wakes one day to find global front pages calling him a "Double Rapist". Then an Interpol Red Notice when he is only wanted for questioning & already answered questions from Swedish cops
Then someone gives the Guardian total access to the Swedish police files and they publish lurid sex details that should have remained private... Sunday 22 August 2010, the Swedish case is closed because of "new evidence" that remains secret, with no apology, then...
Friday 27 August 2010, politician Claes Borgström re-opens the investigation in the Swedish city of Gothenberg (400 km from Stockholm). On the following day, the two women allegedly confirm by text that their new lawyer has negotiated a contract with Sweden’s biggest tabloid...
Then UK Crown Prosecutors tell Sweden not to come question Assange in London, and not to close their case - and then deleted all their emails to avoid more FOIA revelations. And after insisting for years they cannot go question JA in UK Sweden end up doing just that...
And then we have all the abuses of due process in the UK courts, and everybody ignoring a UN ruling that Assange must be immediately released & compensated, and govts in USA, UK, AUS and Sweden all refusing FOIA requests while insisting this is just a normal case...
And then we have all the Western media calling Assange a narcissist and a paranoid, dirty whatever who hates cats, and Spielberg making a movie full of lies, and the deadly silence of journos who know better but don't dare speak up. HOW DOES THAT WORK???
And then the CIA PLOTS TO ASSASSINATE ASSANGE ON THE STREETS OF LONDON and the media just ignore it!?!? And the DoJ's star witness is a pedo & fraud who retracts his evidence AND THE MEDIA JUST IGNORE THAT TOO!?!?! All totally BIZARRE!!!

#FreeASSANGE
NB I said above Assange's case in Sweden was "re-opened a day after it was closed" but actually it was closed a day after it was re-opened. Just as bizarre!

This is a great review of recent media censorship on the #ASSANGE case. We need to draw some hard conclusions about what the hell is going on here. It's not good!

Here's a short thread with some highlights... #FreeASSANGE fair.org/home/deathly-s…
BBC totally ignored the CIA assassination plot except for this story from BBC Somalia. Not a single @BBCNews tweet about #Assange or #WikiLeaks for over 9 months. No tweets from @BBCWorld since April 2020.
Neither the New York Times or Washington Post have published any articles about Assange since July 2021. Australia's @abcnews ignored the CIA murder plot (and Siggi's retraction/jailing) but published this story about angry supporters. abc.net.au/news/2021-10-0…

Why not, @abcnews? #FreeASSANGE

NB: At least the transcript is still there... #WLhistory
Maybe too embarrassing for @leighsales?

"Australia shares intelligence with its allies all the time, you're the subject of a Justice Department investigation in the USA. What's wrong with Australia sharing what intelligence it has?"

There used to be a thing called a TRIAL...
SALES: You've come from a suburban upbringing, to at times sleeping rough on the streets of Melbourne, to being Time magazine's Person of the Year... Does it feel unreal?

ASSANGE: Well it does feel unreal because I've never slept rough on the streets of Melbourne.
