1/3rd of your life is spent working.

Not enjoying it is unacceptable.

Here’re 6 Psychological Biases You Must Overcome to Pursue Your Dream Career 👇
Several months ago, I finally took the plunge and quit my job to build a business online.

It was the scariest decision I made.

And it was only possible once I removed the biases that held me back.

Here's what they are - and how you can beat them.
Sunken Cost Fallacy

We keep investing in what we've invested in before.

Even if it isn't right for us.

It hurts to admit our past was ‘wasted’.

It feels like failure.

But Warren Buffett once said, “The best thing to do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.”
Don’t Let Your Past Decide Your Future

Reframe your outlook:

There is no wasted time and effort.

Your past has led you here.

See all investments as gifts to your present self.

You can choose to use or discard them.

It hurts to change direction, but it hurts more to not.
Bandwagon Effect

We’re mimetic creatures - we copy each other.

And do you know what’s fucked up about society?

We’ve normalised discontent.

Work is tolerated.

It pays for the distractions that numb the pain.

But just because everyone does it, it doesn’t make it right.
Go Against the Grain

Don't follow the masses.

Society tells you how to spend, yet most have no wealth.

It tells you how to be happy, yet most are miserable.

Instead:

Find the people living the life you want.

Study them.

Those outside of the status quo have the answers.
Commitment Bias

We hate appearing inconsistent.

It’s evolutionarily frowned upon.

No one wants an unreliable tribe member.

And we carry that forward into modern society.

We stick with our beliefs, our actions, our statements.

Even if they’re wrong.

Or make us unhappy.
Do It for You

Here’s the thing:

Only you live your life.

And fear of opinion should never trap you.

People will judge you if you change direction.

(It’s an uncomfortable reminder of their own choices).

But you'll only find fulfilment if you're willing to explore.
Loss Aversion

You’d be happy if someone gave you $100

But furious if you lost it.

Scarcity mindset kept us alive when resources were finite,

But now it stops us from living.

We worry about losing our position at work.

Our money.

Our status.

So trap ourselves in fear.
Focus on the Gain

Life’s full of abundance.

And it’s better to lose a job you hate for the chance at one you love.

So, visualise the wins. The fulfilment. The happiness.

The external things you lose can always be regained.

Your internal state should be the top priority.
Present Bias

Humans are the only animal concerned about the future.

Nature has no concern about meaning.

The immediate is what’s important.

And this has stuck with us.

What sounds better to your brain:

Comfort and security at work or years of effort to start again?
Hack Your Mind

Your dreams require consistency.

You have to persist through failure.

Fight fear and doubt.

And your brain will not like it.

But if you feed it dopamine, it keeps quiet.

So celebrate small wins. Monitor input, not outcomes.

Use your psychology for you.
Certainty Bias

Survival is the top priority.

And we’re safest in certainty.

So we avoid change.

We hate challenging our views.

Our ideas about life.

And the result?

We choose unhappiness over uncertainty.
Be an Explorer

Unless you decide to bungee jump into volcanoes,

Most of your choices will not lead to death.

Changing career is uncomfortable,

But it isn’t fatal.

Embrace the unknown and you'll experience life at its fullest.

TL;DR

It’s better to learn our biases than be ruled by them.

-Sunken cost fallacy
-Bandwagon effect
-Commitment bias
-Present bias
-Loss aversion
-Certainty bias

Overcome these, and you’re on the path to freedom.

Stoicism is perfect for the ambitious.

But the best advice came from a slave.

Here’re 7 powerful ideas from Epictetus that will help you achieve success 🧵
“Small-minded people blame others. Average people blame themselves. The wise see all blame as foolishness.”

Blame focuses on the bad:
• It solves nothing
• It makes you bitter
• It ruins relationships

Instead:

Use your energy to change the future, not resent the past.
“It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.”

The ego hates looking stupid.

And so we fail to learn.

But the more you know about life, the better you can navigate it.

So, always presume you know nothing.

And you’ll learn everything.

Do you wish you were more confident?

10 years ago, I could barely talk to a stranger. Now, the people I grew up with don't recognise me.

Here're 7 simple but effective tactics you can use to build great self-esteem 🧵 👇
When you have low confidence, you can be your worst enemy.

But if you stop getting in your own way,

I promise you'll do amazing things.

Here’s what I found helped me.
Own Your Flaws

Trust me,

It feels easier to hide your flaws.

But avoidance isn’t a solution – it’s a plaster.

While everyone buries theirs, dig yours up.

Make jokes about them.

Show vulnerability.

And over time, you'll rule them - instead of being ruled by them.

I’ve broken my neck. I've got a neurological disorder. My spine is held together by metal – and I have zero complaints.

Here’re 7 truths I’ve learned that will keep you smiling through hard times:
Before we begin:

Life will always throw shit at you.

But you control what comes next.

Here’s what helps me choose the best response – I hope it helps you too.
The World Owes You Nothing

I’ll be honest,

At 18, I used to think "why me?"

What I know now:

Self-pity is a poison that’s sweet on the lips.

It takes you nowhere.

And it’s unfair on those supporting you.

Sometimes, shit happens.

Focus on what you can do instead.

I started writing a year ago. Now, the craft is my life.

Here’re 9 Reasons Why Writing Every Day is the Ultimate Habit for Success:
Writing Wins Decisions

Most people don’t consider the impact of their decisions.

They react and then act.

Writing makes you think deeper:

You reflect on consequences and think second-order.

The effect of improved decisions compound over time.

The impact?

Massive.
Writing Destroys Worries

We suffer more in imagination than reality.

Easy to hear, hard to apply.

There’s never a problem you can’t tame with writing.

It brings understanding
It brings rationality
It brings solutions

It quietens the monkey mind, so you can do great things.

Legendary copywriter Joe Sugarman once sold over 20,000,000 sunglasses with one sales page.

Today, I’ll show you how.

=THREAD= Image
Open Strong & Curious

You have a few seconds to grab your reader.

This is even more true online.

The best way?

Intrigue.

Don’t try to be fancy. Be mysterious.

Sugarman’s opening 3 lines give you no choice but to read on.

He has your attention. Image
Tell Stories.

No one enjoys being sold

But everyone loves a story.

Instead of forcing benefits down your reader's throat, deliver them softly through story.

This way, you bypass early skepticism.

And hook the reader – with minimal effort. Image

Warren Buffett once said his business partner is the smartest person he knows.

So I decided to read every speech he's given on business and life.

Here’re 10 Great Ideas from Charlie Munger to Help You Achieve Success.

=THREAD=
To most, Munger is the ‘sidekick’ to a $530 billion empire.

But he’s also one of the best thinkers alive.

This thread will give you a glimpse into his mind.

And show how success is a series of simple choices.
“Mimicking the herd invites regression to the mean.”

If you do the same as everyone else, you’ll get the same results.

But most people are:
• Unhappy
• Unfulfilled
• Unmotivated

Following society’s standards only traps you in them.

Be bold. Go against the grain.
