why does it feel to me in the late 80s early 90s suddenly pizza became the dominant food for kids? maybe my perception is skewed but it seems like around 1988 or so things went from "oh, pizza" to PIZZA! PIZZA PARTY WE LOVE PIZZA, DOMINO'S AND PIZZA HUT ARE OUR GODS NOW. just me?
is it something to do with pizza hut becoming a destination? we had one between my house and school when i was in middle school and my mom and aunt used to take my cousin and i there all the time. i have very visceral memories of shaking out parmesan.
caveat: i was a fat kid (and a fat adult) so it could be my perception is skewed.
we love our pizza dont we folks? we love our pizza and we're putting on pepperoni and sometimes sausage, but we're eating our pizza, we're enjoying our crust, we're powerfully having pizza parties
some folks are citing a pizza hut/school promotion called "book it." never heard of it but fyi. also teenage mutant ninja turtles, which def was a thing but at least in my sphere, pizza maddness predated tmnt by a year or two (def way into it though)
my god was there a Pizza Industrial Complex? cui bono? is it a coincidence that this occurred during peak mario? im just asking questions.
"... and then nintendo - japanese company - releases mario brothers on the nes. at the same time tmnt comes out and then suddenly theres a NOID?? there. was. a. pizza. hut. in. every. neighborhood. just saying, i dont think its a coincidence and please order a pepperoni for me."
also pizza hut in the dc metro had this "barbecue pizza" variety (it was under the cheese, not on top -- UNDER IT) and ive spent decades trying to find it again.
i first had it when i went to my friend's house in middle school for a sleepover and as a goody two shoes straight edge kid it was the closest i had to a dance with the wild side.
"mom, at jonah's house they eat barbecue pizza. and it was good mom. it was good."
also yes i def think chuck e cheese was a factor. our apartment complex was right next to a shopping center w one and def many of my preteen years involved pac-man, skeeball and pizza. the only things one needs in life at 12 in 1988-9
the one time i really broke the rules is when i went over to chuck e cheese. i wasnt supposed to leave our complex wo telling mom. it was the WORST trip ever i swore every second i played video games my mom would be behind me and bust me. dont break mom's rules.
i told my mom about the chuck e cheese caper when i was in my 30s and her very on brand reply was a remark "mmm, so you were lying to your mother. confession is good for the soul." ROFL
but the whole time i was in chuck e cheese my mind was like "i shouldnt be here, i shouldnt be here. mom knows. mom knows. what have you done? she's going to walk into chuck e cheese and telekinetically kill every game with her mind. you'll be in trouble forever. ABORT."

Ok so here's the deal: Because Trump ripped a bunch of kids away from their families our govt is being sued. We could be on the hook for $3 mill+ for each case. Biden is reportedly trying to negotiate that down. AND FOX/GOP ARE ATTACKING HIM FOR IT. americanindependent.com/fox-news-repub…
Trump screwed up, brought us intl shame and put us possibly on the hook for hundreds of millions. Biden is reportedly trying to get us off the hook for MILLIONS less and Kevin McCarthy, Fox, Dan Crenshaw are attacking Biden like he did it. americanindependent.com/fox-news-repub…
According to the report the Biden team is working on a deal that could be about $1 million per family that Trump TOOK KIDS AWAY FROM. If we follow GOP/Fox it could be more than $3 mill per family we have to pay out. americanindependent.com/fox-news-repub…
"While some have criticized southern Democrats for embracing racially charged rhetoric, its hard to deny the party's electoral success in both local and state elections that has occurred after passing poll taxes, poll tests, and in some areas, lynching." - how theyd cover it now
"Some people find the armed intimidation of black voters distasteful, but these Democrats in Alabama have a string of electoral successes that is hard to argue with. 'The lynch strategy works,' a local strategist told us. 'It's a perfect tool to get out the vote.'"
"Liberal Republicans and independents here in the deep south have criticized firebombing black churches and homes, but southern Democrats insist that they are merely out-organizing the opposition."
Joe Biden kept scanning the room, nervously looking around. Detective Bongino, swole as hell, pounded the table.
"Admit it! You asked for those votes! We have hours and hours of evidence of you asking people to" -- he could barely spit out -- "VOTE FOR YOU."
Biden then smiled. He leaned into Bongino. He lowered his voice to an evil whisper.
"Yeah, Danny. I asked for dem votes. And I'll do it again. I'm part of the Democrat Syndicate and we're asking fer votes all over dis country. And you can't stop us."
nearly every day youngkin is on fox pushing the crt line. fox is a key part of every republican's media strategy. and acting like its just some twitter thing is really wrong n weird.
it boggles my mind on a near-daily basis how so many people can purport to report on the republican party at both a local, state, and national level and act like right wing media, esp fox, is not a key element in this. it is as vital to the party as gotv efforts.
to their credit, republicans are not hiding this. this isn't a secret strategy. its right out in the open. they constantly do fox hits. they tweet fox clips. they parrot the language of fox. id argue they pay way more attention to the ebbs and flows of fox than rnc messaging.
one of the few pics i have of dad in a legit grin. sigh.
this is a good one too. he's kind of smiling but you would kind of have to know him to know he's smiling.
almost all my family pics i have this idiotic joker grin on. rest of my family smiles normal. me: COME ON BATMAN, TAKE ME ON.
but really i smile a lot because i had a really good childhood. not perfect - nobody's is - but it was good despite my parents separating and all that.
