As I watched the seminar and saw all of the work that had been referenced in this field, I realized that I didn’t really need to stop the side reaction (yet)
What we have already is still fresh. Still innovative, and still pretty fuckin cool.
And we should publish it.

Sometimes you need to see what others are doing in your field to gain perspective about where you are
When you try for a really long time to figure out a problem and you keep missing, it’s difficult to continue to tell yourself to try again.

His presentation (which was very insightful) showed me I’d done enough to land in the journal I wanted even if it wasn’t the initial result I’d hoped for
