We won’t end this pandemic at home if we don’t end it everywhere. So, to help get the job done, we’ll continue to play a leadership role in the global fight against COVID-19 - and we’ll make sure people around the world can access the vaccines and support they need. Here’s how ⤵️
We’ll donate, in total, the equivalent of at least 200 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to COVAX by the end of 2022 - including an immediate commitment to contribute up to 10 million doses of Moderna’s vaccine. And we’ll continue to prioritize the sharing of excess doses.
On top of that, we’ve made significant investments to make sure COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics are available around the world through the ACT Accelerator. This includes the commitment of funding for vaccine distribution and delivery, and COVID-19 diagnostics.
We’ll also help with the development and production of mRNA vaccines and technologies across South Africa by funding the establishment of the South Africa Technology Transfer Hub. This will improve global capacity to manufacture vaccines and reduce barriers to access.
We’ll help with the global economic recovery from the pandemic, too. We’ll channel funding through the @IMFNews’ Special Drawing Rights to support low-income and other vulnerable countries - roughly $982 million is to be distributed to the Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust.
