I got the latest email EUPOL COPPS Newsletter - October 2021, it says "The Mission continued delivering on its mandate and the advisers from Police and the Rule of Law Section pursued their efforts with the Palestinian counterparts."
I once covered the EUPOL COPPS years ago, but I wonder, considering this "rule of law" mission aspect, it seems to me the PA has become more authoritarian over the years, so...see for instance, jpost.com/middle-east/pa…
I mean the idea was that western governments will invest large sums, the US for instance supported the security forces, USSC ("Dayton's army") to prevent Hamas takeover in 2006 etc...while EU was into the police, law and court system...
In a purely tactical mission the US one did prevent Hamas takeover and helped train units (I know some people who did it)...the EU mission certainly did lots of things...but one wonders in terms of checks and balances...the fact that activists can be abused, killed, threatened
It would appear to me that this is not "rule of law" and maybe one could argue that actually the mission has not succeeded or even provided support for abuses in a roundabout way by ignoring this issue?
🧵 Israel says that the Israel Missile Defense Organization Initiates Testing for Deployment of an “Elevated Sensor” #IsraelDefenseNews#BREAKING (Image credit* Ministry of Defense Spokesperson’s Office)
“The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) in the Directorate of Defense R&D of the Israel Ministry of Defense, commenced inflation of a High Availability Aerostat System (HAAS) and initial testing for deployment of an Elevated Sensor (ES) system in Northern Israel”
“The HAAS is one of the world’s largest aerostats, developed and manufactured by TCOM, a U.S. company specializing in aerostat surveillance solutions. It is designed to carry an improved sensing system, to provide detection and early warning of advanced threats.”
Some #IsraelDefenseNews today; Lockheed Martin and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems signed an expanded teaming agreement, allowing the team to jointly develop, market, manufacture and support Rafael's Smart, Precise Impact and Cost-Effective (SPICE) 250 weapon @RAFAELdefense
And @ILAerospaceIAI will be at Dubai Air Show, "IAI will showcase a variety of its state-of-the-art systems, emphasizing its aviation products, including civil aviation, space systems, special-mission aircraft, and more."
The conversation about Syria is so odd because in the 1990s when areas were invaded and people expelled we called it ethnic cleansing; today it’s all hidden behind “geopolitics” but no one gave Turkey or Russia a right to trade pieces of Syria. Only Syrians should have a say
I think in general this idea that outside countries can trade areas of Syria, usually along with massive refugee and ethnic cleansing movements of people like 1920s “population exchanges” is part of the dehumanizing discussion that harmed Syria for years
But it is built in now to articles on Syria. There is no pretense that Syrians will have any say in their future, not Syrians who support Assad or Syrians who back the SDF or those who back the SNA…it’s just what does Moscow, Ankara, US and Iran want
I mean the reality is that the authoritarian leaders and countries that challenge US hegemony over the last years are signaling with their feet what they think of the summit and climate issue;
Be of the issues with how the western countries approached climate change issues is that they either have other countries a pass or assumed these countries would sign on beyond lip service, I think now what we’re seeing is countries just opening up the curtain
In general the concept was that sure Denmark or other western countries are welcome to change their economy and set high standards for themselves but those not attending or just doing lip service are not going to do anything that hinders their interests
Israel’s @RAFAELdefense which makes Iron Dome and Trophy among other systems says it will “Present at the Dubai Air Show 2021 for the 1st Time”
November 14-18, 2021: Rafael Advanced Defense Systems says it “will be participating in the 2021 Dubai Air Show, marking the company’s first large-scale presence in a global defense exposition within the United Arab Emirates.”
Rafael says “Throughout the week, Rafael will showcase some of its most advanced operational and combat-proven aerial defense solutions which are supported and enhanced by the use of artificial intelligence.”
Can one person explain to me what it means when "US State Department says Sudan's normalization efforts with Israel will have to be reevaluated following the coup"....what does it mean? What is being re-evaluated? How can the US decide for Sudan about Israel. I don't get it.
The only thing I understand was involved in the "deal" with Israel normalization was the US removed Sudan from state sponsor of terror list; voanews.com/a/africa_sudan…
The fact Sudan had a coup has nothing to do with sponsoring terror...that list shouldn't be a "we don't like you list"...but a list based on countries that actually sponsor terror. Since Sudan doesn't sponsor terror, what's the US going to re-evaluate.
