God Cop, Bad Cop? As I am leaving Glasgow after several @MunSecConf events I am feeling a lot better about #COP26 than when I arrived. Here is why. A thread 1/7
Our event with @GermanyDiplo and @adelphi_berlin showed that political leaders are increasingly internalizing the enormous security implications and geostrategic ramifications of climate change. 2/7
Our dinner with @DefenceHQ showed that the security community is increasingly prepared to treat climate change as a top priority as it will not only create additional instabilities, vulnerabilities, and inequalities but will also heavily affect interstate relations. 3/7
Our session with @Siemens_Energy and @EYnews in the @nytimesworld Climate Hub showed that the business community is ready to lead change if politics & diplomacy can deliver on stability, security, and the right incentive structures. 4/7
We @MunSecConf will continue to put climate security front, left, and center at our forthcoming activities around the world & at #MSC2022 in particular. If you have ideas how we can make best use of our reach and network or where we could add value, pls get in touch. 5/7
Finally, I learned a lot from our friends & partners, incl on climate racism from @algore, the profitability argument from @johndoerr, tackling climate-denial from @google and the ongoing redefinition of the global commons from @jrockstrom. For this I am deeply grateful. 6/7
BUT: I hope that at some point we can weave all these different conversations into one. We do need to move from moments of climate security to movements for climate security. Fingers crossed that those still negotiating at #cop26 will help us get there.
