#ANCRundown: A youth group in Cagayan accuses some police officers of credit-grabbing. They arrived in the middle of a relief operation on October 31 with a tarp of President Duterte’s face and the words “Duterte Legacy.” They then took photos and left.

📸 Oplan Bangon Cagayan
In this video clip from Oplan Bangon Cagayan, youth volunteers explained their concerns that their activity might be politicized with the tarp in place. But police officers asked to borrow 1 or 2 relief packs for “photo-ops.”
#ANCRundown
On #ANCRundown this morning, Zach Singson, project implementer of Oplan Bangon Cagayan, explains what happened and what their concerns are over the incident.

Full interview:

Atty. Howard Calleja says at least 2 more groups set to file next week petitions vs. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. either to intervene in the petition to cancel his certificate of candidacy or to disqualify him.
Calleja will serve as counsel. Says this is separate from his duties as convenor of 1Sambayan and insists this is not driven by political motivation.

One group will be composed of Martial law victims while another group will be led by Dr. Rommel Bautista.
Aside from the issues already raised in the first Comelec petition, one of the arguments petitioners will raise is that the CA ruling which reduced penalty for non-filing of income tax returns to mere fine is void ab initio. They will raise it before Comelec, eventually to SC.

The petition to cancel or deny certificate of candidacy of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. filed before Comelec is anchored on his supposed "false material representation" that he is eligible to run for President of PH, despite having been convicted of tax evasion. ImageImageImageImage
Petitioners from Task Force Detainees of PH, KAPATID, Medical Action Group, FIND, PH Alliance of Human Rights Advocates and Balay say Marcos' 1995 conviction for tax evasion should prevent him from running for president, even if CA reduced penalty to fine.
Marcos was convicted for failure to file mandatory income tax returns from 1982 to 1985. Mere conviction, according to petitioners, perpetually disqualifies him from running for any public office.

VP Leni Robredo says she will release on Wednesday a video outlining her plans to fight COVID-19. Says this is based on consultations with experts and economists and drawn from actual experiences of health workers, employees and ordinary Filipinos.

Robredo urges her supporters to reach out to those who survived COVID-19, those who lost their loved ones or their jobs during the pandemic and those who suffered.
"Damhin ang pinagdaanan nila; ang pangamba at kawalan ng katiyakan ang nagbibigkis sa ating lahat."
Robredo: "Ibahagi ang katotohanan: Kung may malinaw na estratehiyang nagbubulkal sa malasakit, makakalayo tayo mula sa pandemya."

Citing her track record:
"Hindi lang pangako ang plano natin. Napatunayan na natin ang kayang gawin ng malinis at maayos na pamamahala."

After previously denying Maria Ressa's bid to travel outside the country, the Court of Appeals Eighth Division hearing the appeal to her cyber libel conviction allowed her to travel to the US for a program at Harvard and visit her parents in Florida. How did the court rule?
CA said Ressa was able to prove the necessity and urgency of her travel. The invitation letter from Harvard shows the program requires her physical presence for 30 days. CA also considered humanitarian grounds to allow her to visit her parents whom she had not seen for 2 yrs.
In December last year, the same court had blocked Ressa's bid to visit her ailing mother who was due for an operation, saying she failed to prove the necessity and urgency of her travel.
CA now says denial of previous motions are inconsequential.
