Quick🧵 of the greatest hits of the Steel dossier truthers, starting with this gem from @maddow & Comey
Maybe @maddow can get Comey and ol Jim Clapper on to revisit this?
Will @JaneMayerNYer and @NewYorker revisit their coverage on this one?
Never change, @JRubinBlogger. Even for her this is a hall of famer.
and @MaxBoot is never far behind Rubin where Russian conspiracy theories go.
I couldn’t imagine why anyone would criticize Christopher Steele either, @JoyAnnReid
@MSNBC probably worked harder to push the Steele dossier than any outlet has ever worked to promote disinformation.
Or maybe the dossier has always been BS, @jonathanchait
Maybe today is a good day to follow up with Steele again, @brianstelter.
This one from @tribelaw presented without comment.
This debacle was one of the most profound, impactful media failures since the Iraq War and we aren’t going to hear a word of introspection or self-criticism over the whole affair
More here for those who haven’t seen it, back when the dossier first imploded.

In the closing days of the VA election, @ProjectLincoln sent a group of fake white supremacists to a Youngkin rally.

Turns out, it was originally meant as an obvious joke that spiraled when too many Dems took it seriously.

Let’s unpack how the hoax spread.⤵️
First some context, @theintercept & @ryangrim wrote up internal LP emails to confirm this, story below.

Maybe it should’ve given people pause that one of the supposed proud boys was a girl & one of the “white supremacists” was black.

It didn’t. theintercept.com/2021/11/03/lin…
Unsurprisingly, a lot of folks on one side of the political aisle were quick to jump on the story.

One viral tweet calling it a “disgusting” reference to Charlottesville got retweets from @RexChapman, @RachelBitecofer, @rolandsmartin & @TheDemCoalition

I don’t care if the Lincoln Project took credit for the dumb white nationalist hoax in Virginia.

I want to know who the people involved are, and what their affiliation with the McAuliffe campaign/VA Democrats - who have both denied taking part on the record - is. ImageImage
Based on the sleuthing of @alec_sears and others, the idea that neither McAuliffe nor the Virginia Democratic Party and its affiliates were involved seems...dubious.
Beyond their willingness to paint half the state as neo-nazis for some Twitter laughs, I would imagine voters in Virginia would be interested to know if one candidate is using the last few days of campaigning to lie about it because he thinks his potential voters are idiots.

The only upside to SJW identitarian brainworms is that sometimes they produce real art, like this.
My modest proposal to the chattering class is that we do away with the op-ed construction “Is [public figure] bad for [immutable characteristic] people?”

The NIH announced a bombshell: despite what Dr. Fauci said under oath, US taxpayers paid for gain-of-function research in Wuhan.

I hope that outlets will correct the record from when they assured us this wasn’t happening.

If they’ve forgotten, I’ve got screenshots⤵️
First, a bit of context. Today, NIH contradicted Dr Fauci & others, clarifying that a grantee, the EcoHealth Alliance, had conducted research (supposedly w/o NIH knowing) to see if bat coronavirus could jump to human receptors in mice.

You may remember a dust up in July between Dr. Fauci & @RandPaul around precisely this point.

It seems inarguable that what Fauci told Congress isn’t true. And the press uncritically helped him convince the American people otherwise. Look at how @CNBC frames it:

I don’t know if folks remember how bad the smear campaign was about NY Post’s Hunter Biden laptop reporting was, so quick trip back down memory lane.

Beyond the full-court press from Twitter & Facebook, the media & Dems worked overtime to shut down the story. Look ⤵️
It’s worth starting with @CNN. They brought on James Clapper to call the scoop - confirmed today by Politico - “textbook Soviet Russian tradecraft.” @brianstelter had a program about how it was obviously fake. @apbenven had an “anatomy” of it.

Where’s the follow up, guys?
I mean, for crying out loud, @NPR went through the trouble of explaining why they weren’t going to report on the story!

Can we revisit that?

Today’s children will collectively lose far more years of their lives because of these obesity increases than they will because of COVID.
Per the CDC, there have been 439 people under 18 who’ve died with Covid nationwide, slightly less than half as many as have died from pneumonia, and about what we would expect from two flu seasons.
We are destroying kids’ lives so that adults can be - and, in lots of cases, simply feel - more safe, and we haven’t begun to wrestle with the immorality of that.
