As the deer longs for the water brooks,
so longs my soul for you, O God.
My soul is athirst for God, even for the living God;
when shall I come before the presence of God?
My tears have been my bread day and night,
while all day long they say to me, ‘Where is now your God?’
...
Why are you so full of heaviness, O my soul,
and why are you so disquieted within me?
O put your trust in God;
for I will yet give him thanks,
who is the help of my countenance, and my God...
Praying for the people of Slaithwaite, Marsden and the surrounding communities - for the liberation that comes from the knowledge and love of God to flow down from the hills like rivers of righteousness.
Praying for those who aspire to lead others: that they will have high regard for the voices of the vulnerable with our societies. That the needs of those who are lost, lonely, unwell, imprisoned or abused will be raised above the clamour of the wealthy and powerful
Praying for this good creation, that those who are working to find holy and sustainable solutions for the way humanity lives: may be inspired by the Holy Spirit with wisdom, creativity and endurance to bring harmony to our world and to overcome those who would do harm
Praying for all areas of war, violence, hatred, selfishness and greed: that God will turn the ways of the wicked may be upside down, and that those who are oppressed may be set free
Praying for those who are unwell in mind, body or spirit: that God will renew our strength like that of our youth, lifting our hearts and minds into new life
Praying for those in grief - that hope in the resurrection of Jesus will comfort all who mourn
Lord, in your mercy...
Uniting our prayers with the whole company of heaven, remembering those who can't pray, those who won't pray, and those for whom no prayers have yet been said, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray...
Our Father in heaven
hallowed be your name
your Kingdom come
your will be done
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our epiousion bread.
Forgive us our sins, our debts, our trespasses,
as we forgive those who have sinned, are indebted to, or have trespassed against us.
Lead us away from temptation,
deliver us from evil.
For the Kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever,
Amen
#PrayerInPublicSpaces can feel hard on days like today, surrounded by traffic noise, isolated by tarmac from the earth, observing the bubbles of humanity distracted by the cares of the world. Today is what it feels like to be 'in the world' not 'of the world'
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise
In 2019 I replaced 860 car journeys of less than 8km with cycling. I enjoyed it. How much CO2 did I cut back on? 1720kg less than if I'd driven. I'm just one person.
I used these figures to estimate my calculation:
Manufacturer and running of a car (on average): 271g CO2 per km
Manufacturer and fuel (cake, pie, beer as fuel - on average): 21g CO2 per km
(estimate-heaven) ecf.com/news-and-event…
So each journey by bicycle reduced the carbon dioxide output of my travelling in @DioceseOfYork and (soon to be) @LeedsCofE by 10 times.
This is an emotional and intelligent film about the relationship between society, the car, and the way we turn a blind eye to knowing that 73 people are killed and injured by motorists on British roads every day. Every single day. Day after day after day
How should @churchofengland respond to this casual attitude to random and careless death?
The links between worship and the way Christians treat creation can inadvertently harm, or intentionally heal... Let my worship be in harmony with creation
