Etremely noticeable today was how visible women were in the election voting lines

I assume it has something to do with the gains made by women since 2007 when #Sandinistas returned to power

Thread:

1. 2007- 2017
Maternal mortality rates reduced by 42% according to World Bank!
2. Nicaragua currently ranked 5th in the world for gender parity according to the World Economic Forum it ranked 90th in 2007!!

3. Ranked joint 1st in Educational Attainment, which measures ratios of female to male school enrollments and the female to male literacy rate.
.. Due to elimination of school fees + the introduction of lunch programs

4. 🇳🇮 passed a comprehensive law against gender-based violence in 2012 + an electoral law on gender quotas which resulted 45% of seats in the legislature and 42.5% of mayoral offices being held by women!
Extremely*

Students at Pimlico Academy school are leaving school early because of the protest today.

They are staggering the different year groups out.

Embrassing day for school hierarchy powerful day for students who made the school stand up and pay attention.

Just spoke with to two year 11 students @ #PimlicoAcademy

They said the school avoided the elephant in the room + said nothing to the students, sent an email to the parents saying they would close early + the leadership (the reason for the protests) hid out of sight all day
2/5 They said problems started with new head teacher 'who seemed to be on a mission'.

He tried to implement Christian hymns, tried to over-emphasis 'British values' in a manner that alienated senior staff who left and were subsequently replaced by like minded ideologues.

I was on #SimonBolivar international bridge connecting #Venezuela and #Colombia. #Thread

1. The '#humanitarianaid volunteers' were violent and masked up, unlike any humanitarians I have ever seen.

They also appeared to be aided (no pun intended) by the Colombian authorities.
2. What appeared to be a hand gun was seen with the 'volunteers' on the Colombian side. Y would #Colombian authorites allow a boy masked up to past them with a gun, was it really all about #humanitarianaid?

Or were they sending some kids to do their dirty work. #JustAsking?
3. The local community on the #Venezuela side were supporting their army- cheering on every push back. Clearing the stones after they were thrown at the soldiers and bringing water etc to soldiers on the front line

They didn't seem too welcoming the '#humanitarianaid volunteers'
