I just don’t get the allure of talking over peoples heads. The brownie points that come with it mean nothing to me. I like populist language that just hits you in the gut. It won’t win you elite praise but it reaches a mass audience, which is more useful imo.
He’s not as gifted a communicator as Obama but the stuff people like most about Biden is when he sounds like Uncle Joey sitting on the barcalounger with the patched up arms. There’s a reason.
There’s also this thought sometimes, I think, cause Bush and Trump were so stupid, the counterweight is we have to overcompensate by sounding extra smart. I’m not saying we should be dumb, but say smart things in a simple way so everyone gets it.
One response I see sometimes is the lamentation that the public isn’t smart enough. Well, aside from that being condescending, the onus is still on you to communicate to them. “You’re just it smart enough to see how awesome I am” is no good in communications.
Imagine if the sales team at Coke said “the public just isn’t smart enough to pick us”? No, you get down in the muck. Your job is to move units of Coke and there is no stone you’d leave unturned.

Medias favorite political narrative is “democrats panicking”
Nobody ever got fired for filing a “democrats panicked” story ImageImageImage
Thing is even if you assume Harris is running, “some democrats worried in fall 2021 about an election three years off” isn’t actually a story

Democrats need to stop thinking all of their voters are Maddow-watching Warren people. That’s certainly a substantial portion of the base but there’s so much more.
Regardless of what you think of them personally or politically, the two most talented liberal communicators of the last 25 yrs are Obama and B Clinton. They don’t speak like accountants, and there’s a reason for that.

Why are these guys continually silenced and shut out of the mainstream of conversation, consigned to fringe outlets like *checks notes* 60 Minutes?
Hilarious also to see @sullydish lecturing us about tribalism when he infamously was all in for the Bush tribe and said the left was mounting a “fifth column” because they didn’t support Bush’s war policies
One thing I’ve learned in 20+ years in commenting on politics and media: Never ever listen to Andrew Sullivan. He’s got that thing that works so well in America: A British accent saying the dumbest shit that makes Americans take him seriously.

This is some dumb shit from @hamiltonnolan amplified by Stelter as if I just magically say “labor solidarity” it’s gonna stop cops from pulling over me or my family because we “look suspicious.”
“What if we just started talking about these other things?”

Cops: Ah so I guess it’s cool again to start randomly frisking young black men with the assumption that they probably did *something*?
With the exception of some black right wingers acting the fool (as always) you notice the people insisting we just stop talking about race have a certain uniformity of hue?

Then despite all your writing you don’t fundamentally understand conservatism, which is disappointing
“We can’t understand why conservative media would be misleading, we’ve been in a coma for 30 years”
Mainstream reporting on conservatism is so bad largely because they refuse to believe the right is repeatedly what it says it is. And in conservatives’ defense: They’re not hiding it!

This looks so ugly I don’t get the praise
The first car I owned was a 91 Oldsmobile Calais that looked like this. I bought it from my friends grandpa. I have no desire to go back to this kind of ugly ass styling.
I’m not a car guy but in 2021 cars should look like future cars. Not that ugliness. They should be like cars from Back to the Future 2 as far as I’m concerned
