i love this issue. its kind of a "what if" future where superman runs for president and they determine his eligibility because the "kryptonian birthing matrix" opened on earth so they considered him technically earth born.

theres a great scene where green lantern gives president superman a green lantern ring and superman says, "yeah... that's too much power. no thanks." perfect.
oh heres the scene where scotus rules on superman's presidential eligibility

a lot of democrats think "gop bad thing automatically equals dem votes" and they dont have to work for it, and it doesn't work that way. yes, even something as "obvious" as the erosion of abortion rights is something you need to yell about frequently. backlash wont just happen
this is why i always wince when people insist the gop will "pay" for pushing the line on something. it doesnt just happen of its own volition. if the topic is not pushed for most people it doesnt ever happen. you have to repeat, repeat, repeat.
"can't they see that this is bad?"
no. not if you don't lay it out for them. assume most people have no idea this is going on. maybe theyre all at an 11/10 in your circle but most people *are not following this*.
By trying to pick off that specific pin on the side of the bowling lane, Democrats get more balls in the political gutter. Aim to please center left to liberal voters and you’re more likely to hit it right down the middle and knock over a majority of pins.
Think about a religious evangelical. Do they try to pick off a dedicated member of another faith or a hardcore atheist? No. You go after someone that is maybe already in your camp but not a regular churchgoer or someone who is at least open to faith in some way.
So much of the Democratic/liberal universe is focused on going up to the guy with Jesus on the dashboard and bumper sticker and trying to convince him to give Islam a chance when there are tons of people who have some sort of faith interest willing to be wooed that you ignore

“But Republicans won’t care”
D+I voters > Republicans. Not everything is about converting Republicans. I think strategy based on that idea is a waste of time and resources. I think motivating Democratic and Dem-leaning voters is more important.
Activating D + lean D voters will pick up disaffected Republicans better (bandwagon effect) than pandering to conservative Republicans who don’t support liberal things plus that will turn off a good amount of D voters
I just don’t get the allure of talking over peoples heads. The brownie points that come with it mean nothing to me. I like populist language that just hits you in the gut. It won’t win you elite praise but it reaches a mass audience, which is more useful imo.
He’s not as gifted a communicator as Obama but the stuff people like most about Biden is when he sounds like Uncle Joey sitting on the barcalounger with the patched up arms. There’s a reason.
There’s also this thought sometimes, I think, cause Bush and Trump were so stupid, the counterweight is we have to overcompensate by sounding extra smart. I’m not saying we should be dumb, but say smart things in a simple way so everyone gets it.
