2022 will be a very different year for the UK politically.

The 1st Brexit deal anniversary will pass with very few Leavers celebrating. This mightn’t seem important but it really is.

We now move to the next stage:

The new status quo - the dull disappointing post-Brexit era.
If the opposition parties can avoid the various culture war traps then politics will return (as it’s already started doing so with the corruption issue) with the normal politics of competence & trust.

It’s vital the “European question” is framed thru this rather than leading it.
In other words:

Lab/LibDems should frame the debate around:

“Who is able to get a better deal with Europe, a better trading & political relationship?”

This might seem a silly question for remain voters but for “swing leave voters” this is the door they need to 1st go through…
The key here is to deconstruct Brexit on the battlegrounds where the opposition has the advantage - such as trust, competence, Johnson’s record & being anti Johnson…

…and not on areas where Johnson has the advantage - such as “showy patriotism”.
Both Labour & LibDems need to adopt something like a “better deal for Britain” communicative strategy.

This communicates the bad deal/situation Johnson has wrought while offering something better without painting themselves too much right now into a corner on the EU.
“A better deal for Britain” implies improvement & change while telling voters that it was Johnson that got it wrong - not them.

“A better deal” also subtlety opens up “voter acceptance” that the post Brexit situation has to change without risking a national culture war.
“A better deal for Britain” also implies a “British led” solution rather than a more passive “tail between legs we must return to Europe” answer.

For voters these things matter.

“We can do better” as opposed to “our country (you) screwed up”.
If Labour/LibDems are successful in this in the 1/2 years before the election…this then inevitably opens up the public debate on

“What sort of a better deal?”

Parties don’t need to answer this exactly & immediately - it’s more important that the question itself is “accepted”.
The key here is to avoid “Brexit is stupid” versus “Brexit is patriotic” debate.

But rather to move the public discourse on to:

What sort of deal/relationship do we want/would help us/can we achieve?

Once you get here public debate becomes more rational & opens up soft Brexit.
That’s why it’s best to think of rejoin as a “rolling process” not a “tipping point”.

A rational debate makes softer Brexit inevitable

Softer Brexit leads to single market membership

..and single market membership highlights lack of UK “institutional say” so leads to rejoin…
Now theoretically it’s possible that all 3 stages happen quickly - but it’s, in my view, extremely unlikely the last stage will - or even could - happen in less than 7-8 years.

But the 1st stage could happen inside the next 2-3 years and is the prerequisite for the next two.
This is why I prefer talking of a “better deal” which suggests “improvement” rather than “best deal” which implies an “end state”.

This is the conversation parties need to encourage and post 2022 I think many voters are - hesitantly but gradually - ready for.

So, as expected I got a lot of "diverse" feedback (& quite a few blocks) yesterday for this thread.

So here's another way oflooking at it:
If you really, really believe that its **just Labour'' stopping a progressive alliance answer me this one simple question....
Why dont the LibDems and Greens start the ball rolling with an electoral pact where Greens stand down in favour of LibDems in top 50 LibDem target seats?
With an alliance for PR, a better EU policy, constitututional reform with both parties.
& in return..

electionpolling.co.uk/battleground/t…
..in return the LibDems stand down in favour of the Green candidate in 50 top Green target seats not on LibDem list?

It would be a rapid process to do, involving just 2 parties working together on policy (Climate change, PR, EU & constitutional reform).

+UPDATE+

Friends of Owen Paterson are organising an amendment to delay action being undertaken against the corrupt MP.

This would pause his case while Tory MP John Whittingdale "reviews" the standards system.

If you're wondering where you've heard of Whittingdale before...
Well you're in for a surprise....

John Whittingdale is more corrupt than Owen Paterson.

Which of course is EXACTLY why he has been chosen for this.
His job will be to get Owen Paterson off and break the standards regulatory system.

From 2019:

Essentially the action would see one of the most corrupted Tory MPs - Whittingdale - be given the role of gutting a political neutral & expert standards committee investigation & verdict into another corrupt Tory MP.

This is full on "Hungarian democratic governance level" now,

This is a difficult to write.
In fact, I’m sure a few will block me after reading this thread.
But it has to be said. Some claiming that a national progressive Alliance is something that can be magicked up simply don’t know what they're talking about.

Lets start with the Greens.
So here’s a question why doesn’t the Labour party form an electoral pact with the Greens?
Surely the Greens would win lots of seats.
The answer is almost certainly – No.

WHY?
The answer is simple – FPTP
But lets start in a strange place – Bassetlaw.
Very “ungreen” politically.
“RedWall” as media call it – Labour now Tory.
What does this tell us about Greens?
Well it had one of the biggest swings in electoral history – massive.

For those amused by Morrisons "non EU salt & pepper" the story is actually deeper than you think.

For a start its comepany have a long history of "national gestures", for a start there were...
At the height of the difficult Brexit negotiations, for example, Morrisons changed the name of Brussels Sprouts to "British Sprouts".

All of this was part of a longstanding "patriotic strategy" by the company.
independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
The company was led by Sir Ken Morrison for decades and was avowedly British refusing to invest abroad....all that is except for Gibraltar as part of his longstanding campaign to keep Gibraltar British. Despite the pack of economic sense it made.

As i keep telling you…there is simply no point analysing Brexit from a normal political or economic perspective.
It’s utterly pointless.

Brexit & Post Brexit Britain can only be understood as a psychological-cultural development.

This is why we need to work to get govt out.
The level of disinformation is now so high, so emotionally charged & spread by people who a few years ago would’ve been considered relatively rational…that opposition parties and rational actors must deal with this situation as if dealing with a psychologically damaged person.
As anyone who's dealt with this type of situation (as indeed, for that matter, with addiction) will tell you a "step-by-step" process is the best bet to recovery.

Anyone who thinks UK society is going to recover from this instantly in some "euraka moment" is fooling themselves.

So I was convinced that "Aurora Bosotti" was a made-up name..as its well known that some of the more scurrilous newspapers run quite a few pf their more absurd articles under false names to hide journalists' embarassment.

But the truth, well its even stranger than that..
Yes Aurora Bosotti is real.
One of the most vicious of the new breed of Express "journalists" who specialise in whipped up xenophobic "Brexit as war" reporting with a a significant overlapping role at the Newspaper for stalk-baiting Meghan Markle.

But who is she...?
Well surprisingly she doesnt just have the name as a distant family legacy or as middle class affectation...Ms Bosotti scourge of the europeans, liberals & Scots...is of course Italian...and whats more has impeccable european connections...

Now you may be wondering...
