The company was led by Sir Ken Morrison for decades and was avowedly British refusing to invest abroad....all that is except for Gibraltar as part of his longstanding campaign to keep Gibraltar British. Despite the pack of economic sense it made.
There was something to admire about Sir Ken.
He insisted on keeping Morrison's HQ geared to the North even as it expanded "down south" or as Sir Ken would call it "the lazy south".
His patriotism was blunt and often silly but heartfelt.

In 2021 Morrisons was acquired by CDR - a US private equity firm.
Now its just another private equity business run from New York.
Perhaps the Americans are keeping appeals to brexit nationalism as part of the brand.
