1/ Some things never change. If you are under any illusion about how the #TPLFTerroristGroup is using the humanitarian aid situation in Tigray and think TPLF is concerned for the people of Tigray, here’s a thread on TPLF playbook used 37 years ago and one that is being used now
2/ BBC article by @martinplaut in 2010
“Millions of $ in Western aid for victims of the Ethiopian famine of 1984-85 was siphoned off by rebels to buy weapons, a BBC investigation finds”. The article is based on witness accounts of ex TPLF leaders and the CIA assessment of 1985
3/ Gebremedhin Araya (TPLF former treasurer) and Dr. Aregawi Berhe (TPLF co-founder) gave a very detailed account of this & estimated $95m channeled into rebel fight. The CIA concluded that some funds for relief operations are almost certainly diverted for military purposes.
4/ According to the former TPLF leaders, Meles and his top cadres hatched out and successfully executed a scam to use a front “humanitarian relief” organization called “Relief Society of Tigray” (REST) for aid delivery claiming and convincing NGOs that it was separate from TPLF.
5/ To magnify the severity and extremity of the famine situation for the NGOs, the TPLF leaders ordered the exodus of large number of victims into Sudan creating a mushroom of refugees settlements in the Sudanese boarder areas overnight. But the drama doesn’t end here.
6/ The TPLF leaders stage managed an elaborate marketing “drama” for the NGOs to buy and deliver to the population in Tigray by making the most trusted and inner circle members to pose as “grain merchants” and solicit business from the NGO. The deception games had three stages
7/ Stage 1 – TPLF officials posing as merchants would approach NGOs to offer to sell grains for quick delivery (same grains acquired from NGOs stashed in warehouses for FIGHTERS), complete the transaction and delivered the money which Gebremedhin then delivers to Meles and Sibhat
8/ Stage 2 – Stacking warehouses with sand. The NGO representative would perform visual inspections of the stockpiles, give their approval and cross back into the Sudan for additional grain purchases. Meanwhile the actual grains being stacked away in secret warehouses.
9/ Stage 3 – stockpiles of grains were trucked around to new locations, giving the appearance of fresh supplies for the NGOs. With no means of verifying whether the grains were the same or fresh ones, they would perform cursory inspection and make payments.
10/ The same people that diverted aid money for a famine which was described as “a biblical famine in the 20th Century” and “the closest thing to hell on Earth” are now crying that they are honestly worried about their people and the world is echoing humanitarian aid with them.
11/ The same people that ordered the mass exodus of people for a promotional purpose, are now doing exactly the same thing, this time with their own marketing agent @nimaelbagir reporting on the victims from Sudan, their TPLF star witness Gerre and all MSM echoing her stories
12/ This time, ‘Victims’ of TPLF 5.0 massacred Amharas in Mai Kadra before getting into Sudan and starve children for image consumption by @AFP in their main hospital on the same day their general is claiming their people are meeting the food needs of the army on state TV.
13/ The same media BBC et al that promoted the famine attracting NGOs to help Tigray through TPLF and exposed that aid was diverted 25 years later is now insisting that aid is delivered to the all-new, crueler, more desperate TPLF 5.0 despite current evidences of aid diversion
14/ But more interesting would be an answer to my question from @martinplaut
What changed between 2010 and now for you to be such a huge fan of them now? Or were you having a domestic then (perhaps they behind on some sort of payment) and it was a punishment of sorts?
15/ And don’t suspect for a minute that Ethiopians do not know what happened in Hawzen. The people of Tigray have always been pawns for the TPLF’s greedy and selfish agenda and that hasn’t changed in half a century and it won’t change in another one.
Tigray should say #NoMore

Last two weeks in a nutshell – a typical example of #RegimeChange
Till around mid-October the media had been covering majorly humanitarian crisis in Tigray, so much has been said so I will leave that alone. Let’s dive into events since then.
MSM follow the narratives of and quote @reda_getachew & @ProfKindeya to a point that I think they are 🇪🇹‘s correspondents for all of them, they all created stories based on their cries about Ethiopian attack on TPLF and ignored almost completely his claims their attack on Amhara.
Oct 18 – 29 the MSM headlines:
About Airstrikes in Mekelle – Reuters 7 stories, CNN 4, France24 9, Aljazeera 5, BBC 14 while about attack in Amhara – Reuters 1 story, CNN 0, France24 0, Aljazeera 0, BBC 1 and an interview with @reda_getachew confirming ‘carnage on Amhara front’
Oh @nimaelbagir, for the love of God, you’re killing me with your stupidity! Here’s how I read your latest on ET arms shipments. And @cnni , if this is just a few reporters, I think it’s time to let them go. They’re costing you. [1/15]
Story: “Cargo documents and manifests seen by CNN, as well as eyewitness accounts and photographic evidence, confirm that arms were transported between AA airport and airports in the Eritrean cities.” Let’s look at them, shall we? [2/15]
…[lengthy BS about the war and ET]… “As planes went back and forth between the two countries, massacres of Tigrayans in the city of Axum and the village of Dengelat by Eritrean troops took place on November 19 and November 30 respectively. [3/15]
@sparkomat In case my letter is not readable in picture format, here it is in a thread. My take on a story you produced from Amhara Region for Sky News and why I am in complete opposition to it. [1/17]
This is your first reporting out of the Amhara region and I find it interesting that you failed to mention any of what is on the ground. I say this as a person who knows that there is no way you cannot not see the damage and destruction in the region [2/17]
(and if you have talked to people, what they have witnessed) not to mention the IDPs and their situations and focus on the troops. Your description of the region makes your audience believe that there are only people ready for a bloodbath and not victims, [3/17]
1/ Can somebody explain this to me? Is the 🇺🇸 trying to justify sanction on 🇪🇹 while giving its blessing for #TPLFTerroristGroup to continue attack on Amhara & Afar regions regions during special briefing via telephone Bryan Hunt and Erik Woodhouse on Sept 20?
2/ The question was on details of restriction of aid by the Ethiopian government and it ends with “Can you talk about the extent of the aid that they are stopping, and do you believe the TPLF is also in any way hindering aid from arriving in Tigray?” And the response was
3/ Mr. Hunt: “….the TPLF military offensives in Amhara and Afar make the delivery of humanitarian assistance in those regions more difficult. Certainly anytime there is ongoing conflict, it adds a degree of complexity to humanitarian assistance operations, but we believe that
1/ CNN on Ethiopia
Season 2 – CNN on why and how the war started
CNN in its articles since Nov 5th made 37 references to how, when and why the war broke out in Ethiopia. Let’s take a look at them but @cnn please look at no. 9 in this thread for the when why and how.
2/ In 8 of the articles CNN wrote between Nov 5th and Nov 13th about Ethiopia, the war was reported as having started when Abiy declared war on TPLF in response to an ‘alleged attack.’
3/ On Nov 13th, Sekoture Getachew, a senior TPLF member confessed on TV to the attack with graphic expression of the event and on Nov 14th the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the English transcript as well as the video which went unmentioned by CNN
And yet, I saw neither @BBCAfrica nor @wdavison10 saying anything about Amnesty. How is it that some individual accounts using fake photos to draw attention to the humanitarian situation bigger coverage than @amnesty using fake photos to accuse GoE of arrests?
Not only did @BBCNews have some 3 pages long coverage for photos on individual accounts, leading up to these photos is a section ‘How serious are food shortages in Amhara?’ Which is followed by some rant that would sounds like the answer to that question is ‘not that serious’
