I had a trip on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on the South Western part of Nigeria some months ago. There was a SUV who was speeding ahead of me. He was a little bit reckless trying to navigate and swerve between vehicles.
Having worked in a company some years back where you are not allowed to travel above 100km/hr, I have made a custom of not exceeding 120km/hr no matter how good the road is.
I watched this SUV till he was out of my sight but I wasn't comparing myself with him.
Rather, I stayed on my lane. Few minutes after, I saw the vehicle at the side of the road with its bonnet opened and I left it behind. Of course, something was wrong with the vehicle and it had to be checked.
This short real life story has its lessons.
The import of this story is a picture of what happens to many people who compare themselves with their friends, colleagues or team mates. We all have different timings and we have different talents.
We run our race at different pace and at different times. We are all different.
In this race of life, focus on your talents. Continue to work on yourself while you wait on providence for your timing. The fact that someone is ahead of you today doesn't mean you may not be ahead of the individual tomorrow.
Stop making comparisons. Stay on your lane.
Build your own capacity. Develop at your own pace. Consistency is the most important factor. You will get there. Don't stop trying. Perseverance and tenacity are virtues required in this race of life. Once you embrace the above mentioned, you will surely win.
See you at the top!

If we are unable to make a decision for what is important to us as professionals as well as career men and women, we will fall victim of wanting to touch everything and end up not achieving anything.
You need to make a choice for what is most important to you per time.
The marketing professionals have also not helped because every where you turn today, you are being advertised to. Something is beckoning to you to get your attention.
In view of the above, the virtue of discipline has become more important than ever.
While growing up, I saw my father describe my mother as having the same features as that of his mum. In other words, he was trying to say all women are the same.
I felt somehow with those words because I felt my mother is different and she shouldn't be compared with my grandmother. Years later, I read the book: Understanding the Purpose and Power of Woman by Myles Munroe and I saw that women are special creatures created delicately by God
After marriage, I could repeat the words of my father that my wife has some peculiarities like my mother.
Coming down to the title: "You are beautiful", women like to be acknowledged no matter how old and no matter how religious.
Decisions make a man. You are a product of the decisions you made years ago. We make decisions on a daily basis and the decisions we make today have impact on where we will be tomorrow and in the years to come.
Many years ago, you decided to complete your secondary school education and proceeded to the tertiary institution. You could have decided otherwise but you knew that the consequence of not moving forward your education will not be favourable.
Every decision made has consequences. Not making a decision is a decision in itself. Being slow in taking decision is also a decision and all these have varying consequences.
I have watched with interest when friends and proteges reach out to me with complaints on the things that are not working in their Iives and I end up shaking my head.
This is not because there is no empathy but because their focus is less on the good and more on the bad.
Friends, I know things are tough but in the midst of this, I can tell you that there are enough things to thank God for. A while ago, I was speaking with one of my proteges and she told me about certain things that are of concern to her to the point of crying.
HOW TO DEAL WITH COMPETITION
A week ago, a Russian Professor came into TwitterNG conversation on how not to be a businessman. However, I wrote a thread on what a particular businessman is doing to deal with competition which was Cost Leadership. I also mentioned Differentiation.
Although, this particular businessman isn't employing differentiation because he is mostly selling commodities. However, another strategy to ensure you take over the market from your competitors is what I will be discussing today. This will take us into the 7Ps of Marketing.
The 7Ps of marketing was developed by E Jerome McCarthy. It was designed to ensure organizations have a right mix of the elements of marketing in order to satisfy the customers and enable them review their strategies from time to time most especially with consumer changing needs.
