When Ludwig von Mises noted that a manager is a "junior partner" of the entrepreneur (Human Action, p. 301), he did not mean to downplay the role of management in the economy. On the contrary, he wanted to make clear how the economic functions #entrepreneurship and #management
are different yet related. From the point of view of the economic system, i.e. how the market works, entrepreneurship is, according to Mises, the uncertainty-bearing of enterprise: entrepreneurs allocate scarce, productive resources between different types of production, many
of which are not yet in existence. The bearing of uncertainty means simply that you're committing resources, which have multiple valuable uses, to specific production processes. If that decision is "wrong" you suffer a loss; if the decision is better than most you earn a profit.

Last month a friend asked me "what's the best resource you've read thus far on human decision-making?" 1/
After thinking about it, I decided to recommend her one of the first such resources I ever encountered, seven years ago: Doug Hubbard (@hubbardaie)'s How to Measure Anything. 2/ amazon.com/How-Measure-An…
While I don't agree with every word of it, How to Measure Anything is quite possibly the most important and useful book I've ever read on any topic. Here's why. 3/

Our latest #infographic for the @UofAALES #EMEND project is here! Check out the full infographic here (ow.ly/hjQs30nknje) or read more below! #scicomm #sciart @NSERC_CRSNG @EllenMac_UofA @charlesnock (1/8)
First of all, what is EMEND? This is a @NSERC_CRSNG funded experimental harvest area where researchers are able to study the effects of retention #harvest strategies on biodiversity, soil properties + more. (2/8)
'Retention harvest' means keeping some trees either individually or as patches after harvest. This might help improve #conservation of #biodiversity within the area & can be used to mimic natural disturbance patterns. (3/8)

Hello, everyone!

We're going to kickstart our weekly #GlobalEChats discussion thread. This week, we'll talk about #fitness #personal #trainer as #entrepreneurs and how #tech can change everything!

Ready? Let's go!
Let's first start with two possibilities in the future.

1. We no longer need humans as #PT personal trainers at the #gym or #field. All will be replaced by #tech and smart applications! 😲

2. Human PTs will still be demanded but will utilise #tech to improve their coaching!
Do you think #1 is truly possible? It seems a bit far-fetched, no?

Meet @ollinfit! Ollinfit is a set of three wearable sensors and smartphone app that work together as your personal trainer. Say what???

Using Ollinfit, you'll be able to workout without needing human coaching!

Let's start our #GEMChats this week. The topic of this week is #student #entrepreneurship!

We'll discuss these three factors in the poll options below as well as replies to the poll 🧐🧐🧐 Let's take this forward!
#Students? And #entrepreneurship? Is that even a good combination?

Especially when you read that the famous student entrepreneurs like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are all dropouts!!!

Can students not only run a #business while studying but also be #successful at it?
Taking a different perspective at this is that while these billionaires are college dropouts, the #idea for the #business all came about when they were in #college! As a young #student, your ideas have a chance at being fresh and can be developed through stringent planning!

#Competence is the capacity to consistently deliver, without being micro-managed. Sometimes, it is assumed competence is about skills or attitude alone. No, it's also about ideology and drive. #Thread #Skills #HR #Management
The ideology behind competence is multifaceted. There's fairness - the belief that one ought to do what one has been contracted to do. There's righteousness - wanting to do the right thing. There's integrity and reliability - keeping your word and keeping to time.
There's a strong desire for quality - a heart that's imbued with the spirit of excellence. It's why you make sure that internal memos don't have typographical errors. It's why your home is as beautiful as your office.

Here's a short list of key, NON-technical skills and trainings for CISOs and those who aspire to be a #CISO. Tech skills are important, but most #cybersecurity pros who reach senior positions will succeed or fail based on so-called "soft skills" (I hate that phrase). #CISOSkills
1. Management skills. When I interview manager candidates, I ask "What's your management framework?" There's no ONE right answer, but you should have SOME formal system for managing. My favorite is Situational #Leadership @sitlead_cls. Their multi-day training is πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ #CISOSkills
Situational Leadership defines leadership as "influencing people". The model works in influencing up, down, & laterally. We put ALL our managers through this. Their 360 process will show you how your leadership style is perceived by coworkers and direct reports. #CISOSkills
