There is a lot here. First, there is the Christian-washing of basic gentrification.
What Happens When a Non-LGBTQ+ Affirming Church-Meets-Coffeeshop Comes to a Particularly Queer Part of Durham? indyweek.com/news/durham/pi…
Look at this lingo. It’s thicker than an instagram capitalism hustle:
Redemptive enterprise. Wut.
The gentrification is very 2021. But the “third place” theory of capitalist change is 2001. Makes me wonder where she is pulling these threads.
It’s real estate speculation. The rest of this is a grab bag of mumbo jumbo.
And just as I am thinking that the almost-pastor sounds like a carnie I get this pay-off:
Do the Methodists do visions?? I didn’t think they did that. Admittedly, I’m not very good at the religions.
My great grandma always said that people who just walk up to you claiming to prophesy always got one of them eyes on your purse.

The way that whole franchise fell apart after Boseman’s death is kind of sad. It all feels like a very specific Obama fueled delusion now. I can barely remember the mania.
This week in the newsletter, I wrap up a three week series on what the hell is Sinema wearing. We covered speech acts, performance, pinkwashing, fitness morality, racism, and social class. Power is everyday.
This week’s issue — like previous issues — features a sociologist. This time it is Ashley Mears. The issue has one of the sickest sociological burns I have ever heard. Fave when you find it.
