Sentencing at 3pm in Jan 6 case of Rasha Abual of New Jersey
Prosecutors will show this exhibit (a Facebook post in which Abual allegedly references CIVIL WAR IS COMING) ===>
Abual’s defense lawyer began argument for leniency saying: My client didn’t want to start a Civil War or be part of a Civil War.
Well this is a first. Among the statements seeking leniency, defense says Abual has been stressed and grinding her teeth … and had to go see a dentist.
Defense argues a jail sentence would “tear (Abual’s) family apart”
Abual is speaking now, asking for leniency. “The only time I registered to vote was 2020, because I want law and order”
Abual says she wanted “a free and fair election. I never meant to cause harm”
Abual says police did not turn her away or give her a sign she shouldn’t be in Capitol.
(Amid a riot)
She says she really wanted to see the “beautiful Capitol” for the first time.
Abual: “There were thousands ahead of me. And thousands behind me”
“I only took a couple of steps”
Abual said she didn’t know she broke a law until agents came to arrest her. She says she couldn’t even hurt a bug… and wouldn’t try to take over the country
Abual: “Your honor, please don’t separate me from my kids”… says she’s willing to pay any amount
Judge will take break before issuing sentence in this case.
Sentence: Two months home detention and 36 months probation. Lower end
