We are deeply saddened and angered by the needless deaths of people trying to reach safety in the UK.
The continued loss of life in the Channel as well as in detention centres around the country are a direct result of the Government's racist #HostileEnvironment policies.
The answer can never be to ramp up toxic policies - which Gov's Nationality and Borders Bill (aka #AntiRefugeeBill) does by proposing pushbacks at sea and offshore 'processing' of asylum seekers.

And just this week Gov announced a new prison-like detention centre for women.
The only real 'response' to these continued, avoidable tragedies is to scrap the Bill, end detention, and treat people with dignity.

Provide safe routes for people to arrive in the UK to claim asylum, and real safety once they are here.
If you are grieving and angry, you may want to support @JCWI_UK @safepassageuk @DetentionAction @wallsmustfall @migrants_rights @DetentionForum to name just a few organisations working to dismantle this racist system.

A word on #VaccinePassports... The Prime Minister standing in front of a podium at a corona
#VaccinePassports will create a two-tier society where some people can access services and others are shut out.

And it's the most marginalised whose rights will be worst affected.
No NHS number? Then you can't prove your vaccination status.

Many Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people, homeless people and migrants for example don't have NHS numbers.

1.BREAKING

Gov did NOT consult leading police bodies on plans to crack down on protest rights in the #PolicingBill.

Responses to Liberty and @friends_earth freedom of information requests contradict repeated claims from Ministers.

theguardian.com/politics/2021/…
@friends_earth 2.During the #PolicingBill debate, the Home Secretary said “I have worked closely with the Police Federation in developing this Bill”.

But the Federation has now told us "we did not provide a written submission nor were we consulted on issues of protest related legislation".
@friends_earth 3. Gov has used HMIC report as justification for #PolicingBill powers.

HMIC says it consulted the Association of Police & Crime Commissioners.

But they say "APCC did not make written submissions (or hold meetings) with HMIC regarding the issues of protest-related legislation".

If you're wondering why people are still taking to the streets against the #PoliceCrackdownBill, here's what the Gov has in store for the people's right to protest:

CONDITIONS

Currently a senior police officer can place 3 conditions on a static protest (that stays in one place):
1. place
2. duration
3. number of people

#PoliceCrackdownBill lets the officer place any condition "as appear to him necessary" - a dangerously broad power.
NOISE

The #PoliceCrackdownBill says "noise generated by persons taking part" is a reason for police to impose conditions on a protest if the noise "may result in serious disruption to the activities of an organisation which are carried out in the vicinity". screenshot of the relevant section of the Bill
