Tony Blair offering great solutions for Potemkin Village CLP here 1/ seeks unity with "non-Labour progressive forces" but no mention of Greens, SNP, Plaid ... and it gets worse ...

2/ ... yeah "longevity in office" - not committing the U.K. to an illegal war and a doomed occupation, or overseeing financial boom-bust, or the most aggressive adoption of FOM in Europe... Image
3/ ... now he sees the left as the source of "woke" politics - good job he's not been to an SCG meeting recently - and wants young MPs who are not "woke" - there'll be plenty in Potemkin Village CLP... Image
4/ ... he has no clue as to why the left is strong, despite the expulsions and the purges (and it's own divisions) - because the system is failing .... Image
5/ ... the subs on Red Box should have thrown it back and said "can you maybe include some examples, case studies or facts relevant to 2021?" But this is Potemkin Village CLP, where capitalism works and nobody gets angry about racism, sexism, imperialism or climate inaction.

I've been monitoring UK far-right Telegram channels following the tragic drowning of migrants in the Channel... there is predictable crowing over the deaths - but also racist venom directed at Priti Patel 1/...
2/ ... the politician who's done the most to stoke expectations of pushbacks and forced deportations is (no doubt because she is Asian) the far right's new hate figure...
3/ ... another disgusting theme of far-right commentary in the chans is that "this was staged to gain sympathy"... often coming from the type of accounts that look manipulated (ie follow the Trump or Russian agenda)...

Belarus crisis: 1/ British troops at the Poland-Belarus border... why? First, because that's what NATO's "enhanced forward presence" is designed for: to make any attack on Poland/Baltic states an attack on all... or as the IR put it, a "trip wire"...
2/ The more worrying context is the Pentagon briefing to the EU that Russia may be about to attack Ukraine... think about the logic...
3/ You threaten Poland, which is protected by Art V of NATO, and lots of NATO countries/electorates go "WTF" and don't immediately react; you simultaneously threaten Ukraine, which has no guarantee...

I'm in Glasgow for a COP26 event - the vibe is: the whole thing's been taken over by the Davos types - governments who achieved stuff at Paris now seem swamped by corporate interests... 1/
2/ Really notable the split between lawmakers - MPs, mayors, governors - and governments: governments now v wary of the anti-net zero backlash, lawmakers under pressure from youth activists ...
3/ What's tragic is v little of what's going on is driven by the science anymore - the science says: take rapid, radical and immediate action ... even a lot of activists with one foot inside the tent now drawn into "what's politically possible"...

If Johnson does get dumped by the Tories, how much of "spend and borrow to stay popular in Mansfield" would survive? There is no significant liberal Tory wing, but a coalition of austerians/authoritarians likely... so once again the Govt changes without an election 1/...
2/ One real fissure inside the Tories is over Chinese/Russian oligarchic money and control... numerous RUSI/RIIA types want an end to foreign manipulation of our politics and a stronger European defence focus - and so does Labour... so "Global Britain" probly gets ditched ...
3/ ... and for the Tory right Net Zero is the new EU... would a "f*** net zero" candidate emerge? They would have significant support in the tabloids if they did...

Thoughts on London COP26 demo 1/ About 50k ppl; a lot of them young BUT... no large school-age contingents ....
2/ Green Party presence more significant than *official* Labour presence. There were Labour branches, momentum and many unions but Labour itself did zero and had zero impact ....
3/ COP26 mobilised the London radical salariat ... never at any moment would it have kicked off ... but it was big and dedicated: significant groups of ethnic and national minorities, precarious workers ... also lot of children ...
