A Brief Recap....Thread

Following were the referred documents for copy & paste to draft our Constitution.
1. Magna Carta 1215
2. Petition of Right of 1628
3. Bill of Rights 1689
4. The Act of Settlement 1701 and
5. Certain special Acts of Parliament.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the permanent Chairman of the Constituent Assembly. It met on December 9, 1946. The "Muslim League" members were not understanding the reason and not agreeing to any viable proposition.

Then there was a thorough discussion clause by clause for about 32 days. As many as 7635 amendments were proposed and 2473 were actually discussed before a third reading was given for another 12 days.

The draft Constitution was published in Jan 1948 n the Ppl of 🇮🇳 were given 8 months to discuss it n suggest changes. On Nov 4, 1948, the general discussions on the draft commenced in the Constituent Assembly n continued for 5 days.

Criticism that the Constitution would have been adopted by means of a referendum as was done in Ireland. Several old members of the Constituent Assembly were elected to either Parliament or State Assemblies vindicating their contribution to the drafting the same.
