75% of us think too much.

• We obsess over choices.
• We stop things after barely starting.
• And we go in circles.

It's like trying to drive a car...

With ONE good tire.

This thread is about the other 3 tires.

Let's back up a little.

So...

What are thoughts?
Thoughts are sounds and images we've seen before.

And thinking is when we try to make sense of them.

Right? 👍
But when it comes to getting shit done...

Thinking has its limitations.

Like what?
Limitation #1

We only think about what we know.

So in a way…

We only ever think about the past.

For instance...
'Planning' is a thinking activity.

The thing about plans is...

We don't know what we don't know.

So how can we plan for it?
Change happens.

It happens fast and often.

So if you take plans too seriously…

Without understanding how to deal with unexpected change...

You will suffer.
Limitation #2

When we think too much…

Our thoughts run on autopilot.

Overwhelming mental chatter is common.

Not normal.

Plus…
Thoughts are suggestive.

If your brain says "I'm an idiot" enough times you'll start to believe it.

Best to be in the driver's seat here.
Limitation #3

Thinking isn't always applicable.

For example...
You're in love. 😚

Thinking works against you here.

Because more powerful forces are at play.

You'll go crazy 😵‍💫 trying to figure it out.

You're not supposed to.
No rules.

No checklist.

No expectations.

Just alchemy.

Enjoy the ride til it's over.

The thing is...
We're taught to memorize and intellectualize stuff.

In other words - think.

That's 90% of the public school curriculum.

But...
The following 3 human processes are just as important.

And not honing them is like trying to drive a car on one wheel:
Process #1 - Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Image
There were two 12-year old boys.

Both were troublemakers in school...
The teacher grabbed both of them by the collar and said...

"I don't know if you're both very smart or very stupid. But I think it's the latter."
One boy was traumatized.

"I'm stupid..." 😢

The other boy went home and wondered about it...
"Am I smart? Am I stupid?

Who am I?"

He didn't identify with the insult.

It just made him curious.
EQ is how well we manage our inner experiences.

Because you can't always control what happens to you.

But you can control your response.

Next...
Process #2 - Perception

I was the camera boy.

And I learned piano by setting up next to the piano player and watching his fingers.

I would...
• Watch him
• Ask him a few questions after events
• And practice at home.

Eventually...
I realized he used the same 4 chords in every song.

Different scales.

Songs in different keys.

But the whole time he was playing the same 4 chords.

media.giphy.com/media/rt0vFLR7…
That was my red pill moment. 🔴

When I figured that out...

It changed the way I saw everything.

It's like this…
You can know what it is.

And you can know what to do with it.

But perception is to know how it works.

And when we learn how things work…
Complexity becomes simple.

Confusion becomes clarity.

And the next steps become obvious.

So all that's left to do is...
Process #3 - Practice

We hide behind learning because we want to get things right.

We want to get things right because we're afraid of judgment.

There's no shortcut here... Image
We'll have to walk through the fire eventually.

But I'll tell you this...
It's easier to follow through when you commit to a process.

Decide what you want to do.

Then practice doing it.

And - a quick life hack…
If you don't already know...

Then don't worry about what you want to do.

It's easier to decide who you want to BE.

And if you don't already know who you want to be...
Stop listening to the people telling you who you SHOULD be.

Then "Who you want to be" will happen by default.
Summary:

Thinking is important along with…

• EQ - manage your inner-experiences
• Perception - understand how things work
• Practice - commit to a process

Do you write?

5 years ago I paid $1650 to learn the same framework Hollywood uses to script movies—and I've made that back 200x over.

Here it is. 🤫

Story is the most persuasive messaging tool in the universe.

But most story gurus teach a small portion of it.

So...
Here's a 23-part framework you can use for clear and concise messaging.

I rarely use the whole thing.

It took only 60 seconds to...

Fasting?

I want to make sure you do it safely. Because I care about you. 🤗

How to fast for 22 hours per day (without suffering.)

About 15 years ago I tried a religious fast:

Just water for 3 days.

(Which is nearly impossible when you're already unhealthy.)
12 hours in...

❌I had a headache.
❌I was irritated.
❌I felt weak and hungry.

And 20 hours in...

Here's Donald Miller's resume:

Most are bestsellers.

He came up with a simple storytelling framework.

Who is the story about?

And what do they want?
2 - Has a Problem:

What's stopping them from getting what they want?

There are 3 depths to a problem…
