This morning I’m exploring Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem on foot. This outer moat for the Grand Palace was dug in the 1850’s during the reign of King Rama IV. The canal is 20m wide, 3m deep and 5.5km long. All of the land on the right hand bank of this photo belongs to the railway. Image
As you can see from these photos, the BMA are improving the landscape on each side of Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem for 1,250 meters where it runs alongside Bangkok Railway Station. They will widened the path to include a jogging track and also plant 151 more trees. #Bangkok ImageImageImageImage
These are artist impressions of what this section of Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem canal will look like. The BMA anticipates that this new green area will be finished by March 2022 #Bangkok #Thailand ImageImageImageImage
This is the Bobae Market section along Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem. Will the BMA be tempted to move them away from the canal banks as part of their beautification project? They did this already with the market over Khlong Ong Ang.

Where Luk Luang Road meets Rama V Road, next to Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem, there is a new tourist attraction called the Great Wall of Thailand. The shipping containers and razor wire seem to be a permanent fixture to protect Government House.

Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge is the most impressive of the bridges on Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem. It was built in 1900 at the same time as Ratchadamnoen. The bridge and avenue were commissioned by King Rama V following his first visit to Europe and was inspired by the Champs-Élysées. ImageImageImageImage
At the northern end of Khlong Phadung Krung canal is Thewes Pier. From here you can catch a Chao Phraya Express Boat. This is also a few meters from the last pier of the electric canal boat service. So, it’s very convenient.

As I was about to head back down the canal to Hua Lamphong on my electric scooter, one of the electric canal boats pulled up and so I decided to take the scenic route back instead. This boat service is free and runs seven days a week every 15-30 minutes depending on time of day. ImageImageImage
This is as far south as I can go on Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem. Just out of site is a watergate and beyond that the Chao Phraya River. Before the watergate was built, there was a bustling trade with many boats going up and down this canal from the river to the train station. Image

Good morning from Bangkok Railway Station. Today I’m going on a special day excursion to Pasak Cholasid Dam. The train leaves at 6:00am and returns tonight at 6:50pm. This will be a THREAD of the day trip #รถไฟไทย #thaitrain #Thailand ImageImageImage
To go on the train excursion, you must be fully vaccinated or can show a negative ATK covid test taken within 72 hours. After we had boarded, someone came round to inspect our certificates. Really it was just a cursory glance. He told me, just to make passengers feel better. Image
This is Bang Sue Grand Station which will replace Bangkok Railway Station as the new terminal station for the capital. It’s about 25 minutes north of Hua Lamphong. From 24th December, all trains will depart from here tatnews.org/2021/06/bang-s… #รถไฟไทย #thaitrain #Thailand Image

The following are some updates about Thailand Pass by @MFAThai:
📌 They are working on improving the system. For example, allowing documents to be submitted in PDF format, drop down list of hotels & partner hospitals, and add a way for people to check registration status [THREAD]
📌 At the moment, digital vaccination certificates can only be read automatically for 30 countries. They are trying to increase this number to speed up the verification process. It takes three days to verify certificates for some countries.
📌 Delays are caused when applicants upload documents that are difficult to read such as vaccination certificates
📌 Some upload hotel bookings that are not linked to partner hospitals
📌 Some enter wrong email address or their mailbox is full and so emails bounce back

I’ve landed safely at Suvarnabhumi Airport. We disembarked from the airplane at 6:05am and were in the van leaving the airport at 6:49am. This is a THREAD of my experience of arriving with Thailand Pass and then the hotel. Overall, it was fast and efficient. I give them 10/10. Image
[2] A short distance from the gate we came to this area where there were many chairs set up. We just kept walking to the far end. However, if there are several flights landing at the same time, you might have to sit and wait here. Image
[3] I reached the queue for checking COE and Thailand Pass documents at 6:07am (3 minutes after disembarking) and I was finished here by 6:12am. Very fast. Though mainly due to only one flight landing and only 100 people on our flight. Image

Until the Thailand Pass system is launched on 1st November, you must continue to use COE. In fact, the first person with a Thailand Pass is not expected to arrive until 12th November, as it takes 7 days to process. [THREAD]
Vaccinated people from countries on the list must book one night at a SHA+ hotel which will include hotel transfer and a RT-PCR test. In theory you can book a hotel in Pattaya or Hua Hin. But it’s advisable to spend the first night in Bangkok.
After you go through Immigration and customs, you cannot have a friend meet you. The driver will either take you straight to the hotel, if they have facilities for testing, or he will take you to a testing center first and then your hotel.

Today I’m at the Department of Disease Control to apply for my yellow vaccine passport which I will use for international travel. I’m applying at the office in Nonthaburi, but you can also apply at your local health office or provincial hospital. This THREAD gives you the steps.
[2/6] I made an appointment to apply for the ‘COVID-19 Certificate of Vaccination’ from the website of the Division of Communicable Diseases: vpassport.ddc.moph.go.th. But please note, after 30 October, you must use the Mor Prom app to make an appointment.
[3/6] My appointment was at the Department of Disease Control in Nonthaburi (Map: goo.gl/maps/KdeCViUtA…). You need to go to Building 5. The security guards told me where to go before I asked. At the lobby entrance, you pick up a queue number and wait to be called.

This is going to be a THREAD about Khlong Phra Khanong. The starting point of the canal is the Chao Phraya River in Klong Toei Port and it goes eastwards beyond Srinakarin Road. I will be posting in this thread every time I come here to explore #BKKcanals #walkingBKK #Bangkok Image
As you can see, Khlong Phra Khanong is not a straight canal. In fact it’s a natural river that has been straightened a little over the years to make it a more efficient “highway”. The community along the banks date back to the pre-Ayutthaya period #BKKcanals #walkingBKK #Bangkok ImageImage
I was hoping to start my exploration today by taking a public boat from Phra Khanong Pier. Unfortunately due to lack of interest it isn’t running at the moment. But you can rent a long-tailed boat for around ฿1,000.
