Dear PM @alexanderdecroo,
I understand it's not easy to run this nuthouse. But I have come to understand it is a nuthouse everywhere in the π. I have a story to tell and perhaps this might stop you & others in power from looking away. @FranceDammel@JeroenSchoenm 1/
Testimony 1:EEB parent who chose Bxls to live. π§πͺπΈMy 8 year old son was the unlucky third child to be infected in his class. He was sick on Tuesday (blocked nose, headaches, raised temperature) after a contact that must have happened last week at school. @ScholaEuropaea 2/
His 10 y/o brother had the same symptoms on Wednesday, slightly higher fever. We have well aerated rooms with HEPA filters, and we have been wearing masks at home and isolating our son since he showed first symptoms. Hope that was it and we're not all infected. 3/ @JHahnEU
My husband is vulnerable so we have been extremely cautious throughout the pandemic. We have had to live apart several times when kids had to quarantine during 2 years. It is an enormous stress. 4/ @SKyriakidesEU
Our biggest risk has always been to send the children to school. We kept them home for months and fought with the school but there was no flexible solution. The ES system doesnot cater to the plight of the vulnerable nor Belgium as a member state. 5/ @AlumniEuropae
My vulnerable husband & I wear masks, look after 3 kids at home while two have tested positive. Fortunately we have an income and a roof over our heads. But is it worth living in the chaos for 2 years? Do you realise you also have all EU staff & families here in Bxls? 6/
It is not the first time this happens. I understand your house is not in order. But if the house burns each time you ask your brother to cook, there is a time to realise that your brother cannot cook. Look at these numbers. Kids are mass infected. 7/
Children are not the engine of this pandemic. It's the schools without mitigation that are the engine of this pandemic. The new variant affects kids even more. What is your contingency plan? 8/
There are thousands of expats in Bxls who are dependent on the Belgian rules because European Schools are under them. We have overcrowded schools well above the required number. The Regis de batiments have not delivered. Fifth school is not ready. Families have invested in π§πͺ. 9/
When we install a C02 meter, alarm goes off all the time. Overcrowding makes it impossible for ventilation. We badly need face masks in primary schools. But your brother & sister insist that face masks are dangerous. This affects public mood. 10/
What we need is simple common sense. Why question the benefits when you can ask why don't face masks works? Your advisers have given enough expertise. @WHO & @CDCgov recommends face masks. I never thought π§πͺ would doubt science. Come on! This is the developed π. 11/
I would like to respectfully ask you to ensure mitigation in primary schools ASAP. Masks, C02 meters, saliva tests. You have a brilliant Minister of Health. Cherish him. I realise it is not that simple. And compromises have to be made. But that's what Belgians are good at. 12/
But what I love about π§πͺ is the incredible resilience and tolerance. Belgians are a beautiful people. We saw that with the solidarity of the floods. I saw that in the 2004 Tsunami. I know that Belgians care about the vulnerable. Just fix the house. We know you can do it.

I talk to friends who are not on Twitter. They know nothing of #childhospitalisations in the πΊπΈUS, π¬π§UK, π«π·France, π§πͺBelgium & πΏπ¦South Africa etc. #omicron is mild, they hear. Kids hardly get sick. Are we in a #Twitterbubble? Why do we act like #NorthKorea? 1/2
When will the media break the Omerta? Why are only the frontline medics/academics speaking out? What is the role of media? Who controls the media? Why do we accept passively this #LetItRip hypnosis? For God's sake #ProtectOurChildren !!! Everyone has #Therighttoknow 2/2
π¦πΊ Australia was doing so well...
What happened?

Dear π§πͺ,
Are we ready for the increased hospitalisations when schools start without mitigation? Have you seen the NHS difficulties that UK govt is ignoring? Is the GEMS committee looking at neighbouring UK and France? @FranceDammel@JeroenSchoenm@jan_bertels@alexanderdecroo
I just saw this news. This is insane!!! π± No quarantine for vaccinated and no PCR test for those with high risk contact even if vaccinated have proven to be contagious? Is this the best π§πͺ can come up with? How will this affect schools? 1/3 rtbf.be/info/belgique/β¦
πΉSo teacher's partner tests positive. Teacher doesn't have to test and continues teaching?
πΉVaccinated student's family member tests positive and student doesn't need to test?
