Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry department tells Madras High Court that 57 stray dogs inside IIT-Madras campus had died in last 13 months and that a NGO, engaged by the institute, had failed in taking good care of the dogs. Files an inspection report. @THChennai
Animal Welfare Board of India takes a contradictory stand. Says IIT-M is taking very good care of the dogs and that the institute had taken it up as a social cause.
Case adjourned to December 9
Judges say a committee comprising advocates can be constituted to monitor the welfare of the dogs inside the campus.

Madras HC orders that further functioning of four educational institutions set up by HR&CE dept using temple funds will be subject to result of a PIL filed by @trramesh against use of temple funds for such purpose without the proposal emanating from the trustees. @THChennai
Orders that more colleges should not be started without the express leave of the court.
Judges say the Govt had bulldozed through the proposal to start four colleges. Says it will be a condition precedent for the colleges to impart a stream of instruction in Hindu religion, if it had not been done so already.

Till 1962, TN had 41 MPs but it was reduced to 39 because of successful population control measures. In other words, the State was punished for good work. TN is entitled to notional compensation of Rs.5,600 crore for loss of two MPs: Justice N Kirubakaran of Madras HC @THChennai

Justice N. Kirubakaran of Madras High Court, in his reply to farewell address, says it is an injustice to the people of the country to have only one Bench of Supreme Court in New Delhi. Says regional benches must be established across the nation @THChennai
Laments that he, in his 12 years of service as a judge of the High Court, had failed to implement total prohibition in the State. Urges State Govt to close down TASMAC shops at least partially and then bring in total prohibition to realise the dream of Mahatma Gandhi.
Justice Kirubakaran says people have accused him of being a publicity monger and someone who always exceeds his limits in his judgements. Concedes that he did conduct "judicial kattapanchayats" in the interest of litigant public. Says he applied law to the facts & not vice versa.

Former Advocate General Vijay Narayan is appearing for @actorvijay before the Madras High Court to argue appeal in Rolls-Royce Ghost car case @THChennai
He says Mr. Vijay is ready to pay the tax. He only wants expunging of "unjust" remarks made by single judge and to set aside costs of Rs.1 lakh
Mr. Narayan refers to "simple and plain" dismissal orders passed in similar cases filed by others challenging entry tax. Says single judge has made "uncharitable" remarks against actors community at large in the case filed by Vijay alone.
