@TribunalUyghur@CUyghurs@UyghurProject@RFA_UyghurNews In June 2020 WUC President @Dolkun_Isa formally requested the establishment of an independent people’s tribunal to investigate ‘ongoing atrocities and possible Genocide’ against Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim Populations. The Uyghur Tribunal was launched on 3 September 2020.
Hearings were held in June, September, & November 2021, during which the Tribunal’s expert panel reviewed 500+ witnesses statements and heard live evidence from 30+ witnesses about their experiences of 🇨🇳 policies & its internment camp system, as well as from 40 expert witnesses.
Geoffrey Nice is summarizing the evidence the @TribunalUyghur has heard over the past months before announcing the verdict.
''...the evidence... not only reveal the suffering of individuals but also the involvement of other individuals...engineers, architects...'' - Geoffrey Nice
The @TribunalUyghur confirms that crimes against humanity are indeed taking place in East Turkistan. It is now presenting if the evidence confirms genocide.
The @TribunalUyghur has judged "beyond reasonable doubt" that the People's Republic of China (PRC) has committed crimes against humanity and genocide against the Uyghur people.
In an effort to undermine the work of the WUC, the Chinese govt has increasingly directly attacked the WUC in its propaganda, spread disinformation, targeted the family of WUC President @Dolkun_Isa and made veiled threats.
@Dolkun_Isa Since Dec 2019, Chinese govt mouthpieces & propaganda outlets published at least 4 articles spreading disinfo & lies about the work of the WUC & directly attacking/defaming the WUC & WUC President @Dolkun_Isa.
@Dolkun_Isa Articles published by the English-language propaganda mouthpiece, @globaltimesnews, published two propaganda pieces, while apparently made veiled threats to the WUC by explicitly describing the address and exterior of the WUC headquarters in Munich.
EU High Rep for Foreign Affairs @JosepBorrellF spoke first, noting the EU's deep concern & the active role it has played in addressing the issue.
@Europarl_EN@JosepBorrellF "We ask China to allow access to these camps and allow those detained to be released. They have been detained simply for following their religious beliefs or expressing their opinions."
@Europarl_EN@JosepBorrellF@iwiseler “All mass detention centres must be shut and perpetrators of the massive human rights abuses must be brought to justice. We also expect that the EU is ready to adopt targeted sanctions against those responsible.”
