Sari Beth Rosenberg: I've been teaching for 20 years, & I've never experienced before this level of emotional health. Today's students have the language to describe what they're feeling. The adults around them are creating extra trauma on top of existing trauma.

Sari Beth Rosenberg: We don't want a return to normal because normal wasn't working. Class sizes are too large. Teachers aren't being paid enough. Teachers need to feel safe & protected so they want to stay in their jobs.

Sari Beth Rosenberg: They don't want kids learning about racism, institutionalized racism, so they call it CRT to make it sound scarier. My student said "critical" makes it sound important, "theory" makes it sound complex.

Sari Beth Rosenberg: I haven't heard one kid yet complain about what they're learning in school. Usually they get to the university level & are angry they didn't learn about these issues in middle school or high school.

Sari Beth Rosenberg: I'm a teacher. I always have hope. I hope I get one more kid turned on to history. I believe most people are generally good. They can be manipulated by cynical forces in our country, but I do have hope people genuinely want to get along.

Sari Beth Rosenberg: To retain teachers, we need to get to the bread-and-butter issues. We need to pay teachers more. We need to make sure they have union representation. It blows my mind some teachers aren't allowed to have union representation.
