Ladies, please ALWAYS check the license plate before getting into an Uber. A car pulled up(happened to be same car) & hurriedly threw my suitcase in his trunk - b4 I was able to see the plate. I stood there & waited to see the plate. I see it’s the wrong car. He says…
He says “I wish it wasn’t the wrong car.” 🤔 Then quickly takes my luggage out the car. I’m legitimately confused and then notice my actual Uber behind me.
I tell my Uber driver what happened & he says this happens often. Men drive around and hope women won’t pay attention.
Thank GOD I was paying attention enough to check the plate to get in the car. And the guy was so seemingly nice. Didn’t “seem” creepy at all.
He saw my actual Uber driver and I speaking and he then drove off, which means he wasn’t actually there to pick up anyone.
And I’m honestly so pissed off that I didn’t get his license plate. I was so confused in that moment and honestly creeped out that I just quickly walked away.
I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if I got into that man’s car and wonder what his motive was.
My driver tried to catch his plate but he drove off too fast and I feel sick to my stomach knowing that he’s likely to return to the airport terminal to do it again.
Most people would have likely assumed that this was their actual driver.
Mind you, this happened in Houston - one of the top human trafficking hubs in the US. At 10:30am on a Monday - so unexpected.
- Check the license plate before entering the car.
- Ask the driver who they’re picking up. Don’t say your name. Wait for them to say it.
- Share your trip progress w a friend.(which would not have been possible bc I would have been in the wrong car 😭)
- Your driver should be asking you for a pin.
- Compare the profile photo.
- As my actual driver says, we’re in TX so carry your gun if you’re a woman that can.
My actual Uber driver was so sweet and says that many women actually try to enter his car bc they simply aren’t paying attention - especially at night or when drunk. They don’t look at plates or anything. That’s what this guy was hoping for 😭
Thankfully my gut told me to check his plate before getting in the car. I only wish I was able to get the man’s photo & license plate to report it to the police.
Oh & one more thing - never get in the car if the driver has a passenger in the car. That’s not allowed.
On my recent trip to NOLA, the driver had her boyfriend in the passenger seat. Once again, thankfully I saw him when I opened the door - despite it being dark. She goes “I’ll cancel the ride if you don’t feel comfortable”.
You damn skippy. Uber does NOT allow that.
Ladies, please trust your gut and stay aware - whether you’re at home or traveling. People are crazy.
