I expect this will be a divisive opinion...but I'm starting to feel that for the majority of teams, goal setting that include metrics are a bit pointless.

Now, I don't think that goal setting, or metrics, are pointless. Both are really important!
But the combination of the two is odd for most teams.
Why? Because its usually almost impossible for them to be reasonable & as a result it only causes tension.

There are exceptions to this, probably, where teams have such ownership of a domain that they can reasonably predict how much they can or cannot improve a metric over a given time period.
Yes, its often a very hard question to answer, but its also a valid one to ask.
If you don't take control of the answer...other people will.

This has to be a team effort - whatever you do as a Product Person, don't just make it up!
You need to discuss with your team what you think a reasonable confidence interval is, and then how you are going to communicate that to everyone else. (3/8)
Although 2021 isn't quite up, I've collated a Product Management Advent Calendar with 24 of the best #productmgmt tweets I could find throughout the year.
It's been a blast learning with each and every one of you.
I hope you all have a restful end to the year.
