🤩 Action is gearing up on climate change, and investment in #climatetech has grown to stunning new heights.
My new report with @PwC looks at market trends and where there’s untapped potential for investors and policymakers. 🧵 1/8
🤪 The market is hot. Year-on-year growth in climate tech investment is 210%, with more than $60bn invested in startups in H1 2021 alone. 14¢ of every VC dollar is now invested in climate tech.
We’re now tracking 3000+ active climate tech startups. 2/8
📈 Megadeals are on the rise, and driving much of this recent growth. The average deal size in H1 2021 is now $96m, nearly quadruple the US$27m it was one year prior. 3/8
🌐 #SPAC funding was a new tool tested to further stimulate climate tech’s growth. H1 2021 saw $25bn raised, accounting for more than a third of all climate tech funding 4/8
🦄 The number of early VC, seed and Series A deals has remained largely stagnant. This needs to change in order to enable the next wave of #startups to become climate tech unicorns and gigacorns. 5/8
🧐 The scale of the climate challenge means we need more funding across the board, but there are some areas more underfunded than others. Of the solutions PwC analysed, the five most impactful (80% of analysed future mitigation potential) got just 25% of investment. 6/8

💡 The Exponential Age’s hallmark is a dramatic shift in how technologies work - true to the observation by George Orwell that “every now and again something happens - ultimately traceable to changes in industrial technique - and the whole spirit of life changes.”

We had to make sure people new had to type in their email address. Hence the details below.

The mails took a long time to send, typically at 8-10 hours via the mail relay service used. I would have to call Gordon (the guy who ran it) to check how the process was going. (Their internet connection was busy sending my email.)
