Stupid people and democracy - a thread

Many candidates who appeared in TFI interviews recently, supported the withdrawal of farm laws wholeheartedly stating that people and more specifically farmers were against it and that they were protesting. Democracies must respect people.
When I follow up with “If CAs start protesting against GST, company directors against IBC and builders against RERA, should the government roll back those too?”. The answer is mostly silence or an illogical emotional outburst about people’s right and democracy.
‘Democracy is of the people, for the people and by the people’ is possibly the stupidest quote about democracy and most people think of it as the most technical definition of democracy.
Democracy is a system in which people elect the government. That’s where their role in governance ends. They are free to criticise the decisions of the government but the government is not bound to fulfil their demands.
It’s nice of the government if it listens to people but again it’s not legally or morally (🥱)bound to. People can always vote governments out after 5 years.
And what are people anyway? People are not a nation loving monolith. People are illogical and sometimes emotional fools. People are often scheming selfish wretches.
They are a loose coalition of a billion mouths with gazillion demands, most of which contradict each other. So if the government starts listening to everything, nothing will happen. It will be policy paralysis.
Best governance is dispassionate governance. Best policy making is nation-first policy. Administrators should have small tongues, smaller ear holes and big brains.
People are idiots with big mouths and they will continue to be idiots. But the nation must continue its journey forward. So here’s my new definition of democracy:
Democracy is a system where some sane and many stupid people vote strategically so that their communities get the biggest representation and then expect the government to dance to their tunes for the next 5 years.

India saw a spate of beauty pageant winners in the 90s. That was the post liberalization India. India became a huge market for health and beauty industry and an Indian winning a beauty pageant was just the push Indians needed to lighten their wallets (or purses).
India will see a spate of beauty pageant winners in the next 10 years too. This is the post pandemic India. With a China in decline, India remains the biggest and most resilient market for health and beauty industry.
An Indian #MissUniverse is just the push Indians needed to lighten their wallets (or purses) for cosmetics, treatments, medicines, diets, apparels, and accessories.

My favourite interview question is “What are the 3 farm laws and why are they being opposed by some farmers in India?”

The way most candidates struggle to explain is deeply disturbing. And these are bright Mass Com Grads I’m talking about. The hit ratio is 1/20.
Extremely Seditious (and) Evil Terminologies (are) Tormenting Nation’s Economy and Tranquility.

Looking For Disclosure, Resolution!

Real Solution Lies (in) Spreading Proper Reports.
The above tweet sounds absolutely moronic 😂 but look at the capitalised letters.

Let me quietly demolish this cute little outburst. Whatever I’m going to quote is from Valmiki Ramayan.
1. Ravan is a scholar: this is a myth. Valmiki adorns Ravan with many adjectives, chief among them are - पातकी (sinner), अधम(fallen), राक्षसाधम(worst among Rakshasas), दुष्कृत् (terrorist) and व्यभिचारी (rapist). Scholarly Ravan came into being only in modern interpretations.
2. Ravan is a master warrior: Ravan was a decent warrior. But he wasn’t the invincible warrior he is portrayed to be. Kartivirya Arjun beat him like a mule. Vali tucked him in his armpit. Even Sugriva threw him around like a sack of potatoes. Ravan’s son Meghnad showed more valor

India is a hungry country, shame on PM Modi - a thread

The Global Hunger Index (GHI) launched on Thursday ranked India at 101 position out of a total 116 countries. India is also among the 31 countries where hunger has been identified as serious.
So is #GHI a UN 🇺🇳 curated list?
Is it an international body?

Umm no, GHI is an index created by a non-profit organization named International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). It was established only in 2006.
So how is the so called hunger index calculated?

The GHI is calculated on four parameters:

1) Undernourishment: calculated by the share of the population whose caloric intake is insufficient.

I am a devout Sanatani. But I hate Jagratas! – A Thread

I think the first time I witnessed Dilli ka Jagrata, first-hand was in 2011. I had recently shifted to a 1 room set in a society in Dwarka after staying in Gurgaon for almost 3 years.
Being a devout Sanatani, I absolutely hate the college-fest-style celebration that Jagratas are.

I absolutely detested the way the ‘Vigrahas’ were carried to the venue.
A truck slowly made its way to the community park in which plastic vigrahas of Devi Durga and a bunch of other gods were kept. The vigrahas were fixed firmly with a thick rope.

20 years of Narendra Modi “The Leader” - 7 Badass skills you can learn from him (a thread)
1.History only remembers decisive people: Pakistan attacked us. Let’s respond. UP elections are ahead let’s still go for demonetisation. Let’s start GST. Abolish 370. Many things will work. Many won’t. Take a decision because there is no such thing as a perfect decision.
2. Be a disruptionist: Commonplace is okay. Following the rules is nice. But only those who are not afraid to shake things up a little are the ones who can change the world. All change makers are disruptionists.
