Before we dig into our review of 2021, let’s set the stage—for why anyone outside Wisconsin should care about this state in the first place. Simply put: what happens in politics here shapes the course of the nation.
Wisconsin is the most evenly divided state in the country. 4 of the last 6 presidential elections have come down to less than 1%. In 2020, President Biden won WI by 20,682 votes—a 0.6% margin. In 2018, Gov Evers won by 1.1% As a result, every election here is a titanic battle.

Reporters and insiders think the overwhelming likelihood is that Johnson WILL run for reelection—even though his closing argument in the 2016 election was that he’d never run again after that year. We’ll know for certain soon.

Earlier this week, I posted a lengthy thread about the WI GOP's blistering attacks on democracy. It's gotten worse in the last few days. Now Republicans are threatening to jail mayors of WI cities. Thread (and—donate! wisdems.org/november) ⤵️
Michael Gableman, the far-right crackpot Stop the Stealer who is spending taxpayer $ to advance conspiracy theories (thanks to GOP Speaker Robin Vos) is now threatening to jail the mayors of Madison and Milwaukee if they won't agree to private interviews

It's essentially political intimidation, because Gableman's legal case is, per the Green Bay mayor's lawyer, "lacking in legal merit and built upon a gross distortion of the relevant facts"—to the degree that the mayor intends to file a motion for sanctions. Image

Republicans are trying to seize control from our state’s election commission and put the GOP-dominated Wisconsin state legislature in charge of elections. This would open a direct path to Republican politicians overturning election results they don’t like.
Republican Speaker Robin Vos says that most of the members of Wisconsin's bipartisan Elections Commission should “probably” face criminal charges.

With @GovEvers’s veto, the Republican attempt to re-gerrymander our state and thwart our democracy has slammed into a brick wall. Governor Tony Evers has demonstrated once more that he is the last line of defense against anti-democratic attacks. 1/
Republican legislators in Wisconsin have lost sight of how a democracy works—voters are supposed to choose their elected officials, not the other way around.
The process of drawing legislative maps should be fair, transparent, and nonpartisan, but as we’ve seen, Republicans will stop at nothing to hold onto power.
