As a faculty member that has been on the front lines with struggling students this article infuriates me - absolutely infuriates me - the "kids are not all right" and I have been saying this for two years now. (1/x) bostonglobe.com/2021/12/18/met… via @BostonGlobe
We have created a culture of isolation, snitching, and anxiety in a population of young adults that has done everything that has been asked of them, we have perverted what should be four of the best years of their life. You want to address mental health in #highered? (2/x)
Get back to normal. Why are they wearing masks still? Why are we banning get togethers? Why are we quarantining them? Why are we testing them to chase COVID? Why are we sending them home? Why are we making them feel guilty, making them scared? Two years in! (3/x)
I am absolutely disgusted by the leadership in #highereducation. For all the lip service paid to student mental health, we will continue to treat students like lepers. And then wonder, "Why aren't the kids doing well? I can't figure it out, we need to pull together a committee."
You want to call #Covid_19 a war? Fine. I'm in the trenches, a faculty member that is on the front lines w/struggling young adults. Like a few other faculty I know, I teach without a mask. Why? It makes me a better teacher, but more so, they see me smile, they see a caring human.
And now institutions I used to respect are requiring boosters? Amazingly, defying the science that says it needs a six month window to be effective. But hey we stopped doing science awhile ago on college campuses. Just get boosted, it makes the 76 year old chair feel better.
Well that's my rant for a Sunday evening, but that Boston Globe article really made me angry, sad for those families, and those students across the country that were let down by leaders that couldn't understand the importance of tradeoffs in public health.

Let’s check in on college football opening weekend "super spreader events" Sept 2- 4 – now that we are 10 days out. These games were widely characterized as Sturgis without the motorcycles. Let's check in on -@virginia_tech@TAMU@UWMadison@UTKnoxville (1/x)
Well, @virginia_tech seems to have dodged the super spreader bullet – ten days removed, the positive test rate is the lowest it’s been in the past two weeks with same amount of tests.
