““if we put U.S. military personnel on the Capitol, I would have created the greatest Constitutional crisis probably since the Civil War.” justsecurity.org/79623/crisis-o…
I call bullshit. Trump deliberately replaced top leadership at the Pentagon. Secondly had any elected officials been killed or kidnapped, Yeah, that would be a crisis and finally expecting the Capitol police to protect a federal facility from thousands of yahoos. Nope.
When do you call the National Guard? How about when a bunch of pre organized racists want to stop the lawful execution of political duty and attack the democratic process? chicagotribune.com/news/ct-nation…
Finally the Capitol is a symbol of the American system. An attack on that symbol during the peaceful transfer of power is the exact message Trump wanted to send. The National Guard asskicking white Magats would have sent the wrong message. And he prolly couldn't find his bible.
Nothing in America's history compares to the deliberate planning and coordination for vandalism, terror and desecration of the Capitol on Jan 6. That it was planned and led by the President of the U.S. is the stunning part. These failed Trumpists sound like Nazi apologists.
Much of the event was based on "anger" and dog whistling calls for violence (get wild) It would be helpful to see a timeline of call to actions and narratives that planned, recruited and executed the failed putsch. Here is an interesting older thread.
Many on the left were not in the media silo so perhaps there was disbelief, but those that snorted right wing YouTube, Radio, social media etc knew exactly what was going down. Most Magat influencers were pimping 1/6 as a "wild" protest. nytimes.com/2021/01/06/us/…
How do you stop mobs from going wild. Well calling out the National Guard in advance would be ideal. forbes.com/sites/jonathan…

What if Explore Talent was that "other CIA" all the TrumpTicks were pitching Donnie? So many tiny aspiring "models" turned TrumpOperatives came from there its making me all tin foiley. spyscape.com/article/spy-in…
Eric Garland brings up the idea that these "type" of people are of perverse interest to the GOP voting base. There is no hard proof to support that but there is something creepy about the obsession with pedophilia in politics. From Nader to Gaetz to Trump.
Joan Didion is gone. She was an iconl in the 60's and much more. Part of the New Journalism where the author was woven into exciting events and/or lifestyles. I think that world is long gone. I bet she encouraged a lot of women to write for magazines. anothermag.com/design-living/…
"New" journalism was just immersive journalism, often pointed at the "young" Truman Capote says he invented it. Tom Wolfe turned it into an art from and Hunter S. Thompson blended fiction with fact to create Gonzo journalism. It's all writing. indiependent.co.uk/new-journalism…
Writers used to keep notes, write letters and often their magazine articles were turned into books or movies. There was an intense focus on what magazines had to say. And the back story of stories. theisolationjournals.com/explore/121-fr…
Further proof that a little flattery from the actual President makes it easy for Donnie to kick his high school dropout Kult to the Kurb. What's next Candace "Black Lives Matter?"
I guess if you can't lie your way out of trouble, you can try truthing your way out. Is America ready a thoughtful, positive, recalcitrant Trump? Nah #LockHimUp
There is another minor detail. His buddy Putin is now clearly our enemy. Maybe Donald can solve Vlad's new "Cuban missile crisis" for Joe. cnn.com/interactive/20…
I kinda like it when her mouth goes past her brain and she has to stop for a bit, so that the stupid can fill up the void and then she keeps talking. There is poetic justice in an army of stupids turning on the Stupid-in Chief
Chadd Wright is getting worked up about an alternate reality. The irony has not sunk in. Call me crazy...but I wouldn't want to go on military operations with man pantied dredd screamer.
Mercenaries out. Rwandans in. ISIS sorted and nobody is bribing or profiting from human misery. Let's hope it remains that simple when African nations needs help.
As you guessed, it's not that simple. Rwandan troops effectively dispersed ISIS and they regrouped. Rwandan and state sponsored assistance is preferred to ramshackle mercenaries but at some point outside forces will use the insurgency for leverage. allafrica.com/stories/202112…
Africa has roughly the same number of countries as we have states. Imagine if we have open wars in over a dozen states and violent insurgencies in another dozen. africacenter.org/spotlight/auto…
Been deliberately watching Bad Christmas movies (career woman goes on vacation, meets grumpy whatever, falls in love etc..) that have nothing to do with Christmas. Watched George C. Scott in Scrooge and then thought, what is the best modern Christmas film made in the last decade?
I force myself to watch Russian tank movies, 1920s westerns, mashups, Bannon films, Bollywood, YouTube cooking videos to expand my horizons. But Hollywood just can't get Christmas right anymore. refinery29.com/en-gb/why-we-l…
Dickens, like Conrad first published his novella in the papers. Major success. Reads and watches well to this day. The cautionary tale to enjoy life and those around you is timeless. Just as Conrad's Heart of Darkness did. Both are the same story. arts.gov/stories/blog/2…
