1) PVR has its origin as Priya Cinema in Delhi, which was named after Priya Jaisinghani and was bought by Ajay Bijli's father in 1978.
2) In 1988, Ajaytook over the running of the cinema, which was revamped in 1990, and its success led to the foundation of PVR Cinemas.
3) Today PVR Cinemas with 840 screens in 176 cinemas in 71 cities in India and Sri Lanka is the largest multiplex chain in India and has an unassailable lead over competitors.

5) Mr. Bijli’s entrepreneurial spirit has been best translated in his achievement in building the brand PVR.
6) In 1995 he signed a JV with Village Roadshow, a film production company of Australia, and within a few years, the company pioneered the multiplex format in India.
7) Since its inception in 1997, the brand has redefined the movie-watching experience in the country serving more than 100 million patrons at the PAN India level.
9) By creating the country's first multiplex cinema, the firm helped kickstart India's multiplex revolution.
10) Revenue is generated from in-cinema advertisements/product displays and in-cinema food and beverage sales.
11) PVR has three subsidiary firms as namely PVR Pictures Limited, PVR Lanka Limited, and Zea Maize Private Limited.
12)They conduct a film distribution and production business through its subsidiary PVR Pictures, which purchases and distributes Indian and worldwide films.
13) In June 1997, the Company launched India's first multiplex cinema, PVR Anupam, in Saket, New Delhi, and computerized box office operations by selling computerized tickets.
14) PVR Priya, a single-screen cinema, was established in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, in January 2000.
15) The Company formed a four-screen Multiplex Cinema PVR Naraina in New Delhi in April 2001 and a three-screen Multiplex Cinema PVR Vikaspuri in November 2002.
16) In 2002, Village Roadshow sold its entire share to Priya Exhibitors Private Ltd.
17) As a result, on June 28, 2002, the Company changed its name from Priya Village Roadshow Ltd to PVR Ltd.
18) The India Advantage Fund-I invested Rs. 380 million in the Company in March 2003, obtaining a 38.45% stake by purchasing equity shares from BIPL.
19) The firm opened a seven-screen Multiplex Cinema PVR Gurgaon inside the Metropolitan mall in Gurgaon, Haryana, in May 2003.
20) They opened PVR Bangalore with eleven screens in 2004 at the Forum mall Koramangala Bangalore.
21) In 2004, the Company opened PVR Plaza, a single-screen cinema with a heritage ambiance in Connaught Place, New Delhi.
22) In 2004, they began operations at the first cinema under the franchise model - PVR SRS, a three-screen Multiplex Cinema in SRS mall, Faridabad.
23)In 2005, the Company established a three-screen Multiplex Cinema PVR EDM in East Delhi Mall, Uttar Pradesh.
24)During that time they began operations at three new multiplex projects: PVR Punjagutta - Hyderabad, PVR Punjagutta - Bangalore, and PVR Punjagutta - Bangalore.
25)PVR Rivoli in Delhi and Spice PVR in Noida are the two locations. They also opened five new multiplex complexes in Mumbai, Indore, Lucknow, and Gurgaon.
26)The Company's shares were listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange on January 4, 2006.
27)During 2006-07, the business began commercial operations at 7 new multiplex projects, including PVR Juhu Mumbai and PVR Indore.
29)During the year, the Company developed a new brand of a cinema named 'PVR Talkies' for movie viewing experience at a reduced-price range.
30)The Company entered the Food Court sector by opening its first location, 'PVR Food Union,' at Sahara Mall in Gurgaon, Haryana.
31) During the fiscal year 2007-08, the firm began operations at four new multiplex projects, bringing 16 new screens online.
32) Through its subsidiary PVR Pictures, they run a film distribution and production business, producing Hindi films and distributing Indian and worldwide films.
33)'Taare Zameen Par' and 'Jaane Tu ya Jaane Naa' are PVR Pictures' first two co-production films released
34)On August 9, 2016, the business established PVR Lanka Limited to establish cinemas in Sri Lanka.
35) In the fiscal year 2017, PVR, in collaboration with HP, opened Asia's first Virtual Reality (VR) Lounge at PVR ECX Mall of India Noida.
36) Ajay Bijli is also on the Board of Trustees of the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) and the founding member of Multiplex Association of India.
