1/2 Just a quick one - Twitter is amazing for getting a message out and helping it get to the people it needs to. I'm hoping people can help with this.
I've got a few empty flats over Xmas/NY in Glasgow which are available free for those escaping domestic violence or homeless.
2/2 They are furnished and in the West End/City Centre.
I'm happy to provide food and clothing as well. There's just no sense on these places being empty and people having nowhere to go.
Immensely grateful to all of you - inside an hour tonight you've managed to help someone get a place already from 27th December. The spirit shown by everyone is massively humbling.
I still have a couple more places available.
Another person now has a flat over the next few weeks thanks to you all, she will confirm tomorrow.
Still got one more flat available.
And thank you for the lovely comments, it feels awkward and not what I'm looking for though. Not to sound ungrateful or anything!
Wee update. I’ve received a lot of great and invaluable suggestions.
Last place will be left for anyone fleeing domestic violence over the next few weeks and need safety.
A female friend is willing to be the point of contact too if that would make any woman feel safer.
I'm going to capitalise on the thread-sharing kindness here
If there's anyone who has employment, housing, immigration, debt legal issues, I volunteer at @StrathLawClinic. We run a fortnightly drop in session via Zoom for those who need free legal advice
1/ Wee thread - I was in a meeting yesterday with Presidents of the ETs and others from HMCTS, BEIS etc.
They were able to provide a insight into the backlog in the Employment Tribunal for #ukemplaw.
The only regions which had to list for 2022 are South East/South London
2/ This is due to a chronic lack of resources. Thankfully, this has been recognised by the President of E&W and there is a large tranche of newly minted Judges who will be allocated to these problem regions.
Owing to restrictions on training etc. they will come in from 2021.
3/ The Judges and staff who are in these regions have been working incredibly hard, sitting far longer than normal, taking extraordinary steps to make sure that cases were progressing.
And in London Central, Judges were going in to allocate claims and clerking duties!
Thread on my grandfather who passed away due to Covid-19 this afternoon.
1/ Sorry to post this, but it’s important we do not simply see statistics and remember the human impact. I am utterly heartbroken, my grandfather was admitted to hospital last Sunday with symptoms
2/ He battled heroically but eventually succumbed late this afternoon.
From when he came over to the UK in the 60s, he remained steadfast in his faith – that of humanity. He faced up to the National Front and horrific racism with a smile, for him, these people weren’t enemies
3/ They were just unfortunate to have not had the interactions he had with other races.
He served Glasgow’s west end community for nigh on 35 years from his small shop, always ensuring that he made deliveries to elderly people.
