Some of you know that I came across @AndrewYang before he started his campaign. I want to share that story with you all -- hopefully it will emphasize why I am so passionate about not only his vision, but Andrew as a human being.

Please RT so more people can read this.
Yang has been my role model since 2017, when I watched the documentary about his non-profit @venture4america, called Generation Startup (I suggest you watch it). As a college entrepreneur, I saw what he was trying to do, and looking into his background, I was even more impressed.
This was a man with truly rare talents, who had sacrificed hefty paychecks to do work that he found fulfilling and rewarding for our respective societies. I admired that, and decided to connect with him via LinkedIn. He accepted. This was two months before he announced his run.

Andrew Yang’s Healthcare plan is not as awful as people are making it out to be. Let me tell you why.

#YangGang #YangGang2020 #AndrewYang @AndrewYang #HumanityFirst #MATH #YangGangLove #YangMediaBlackout #DemDebate
When Andrew Yang said that he supported the “spirit of Medicare for All” it made a lot of sense. Yang has many separate policies attacking different facets of what makes healthcare so expensive, because there is no magic bullet to make healthcare work for everyone.
Even @BernieSanders in his Medicare For All plan knows this, which is why his proposed bill has 11 sections, not just one. These sections include things like Sunsetting old provisions and the negotiation of drugs and equipment prices.

A Thread on My Position After Yang's Health Plan: Disappointed, But Still #YangGang.

Why? Because Yang and the Freedom Dividend remain our best opportunity to transform not only our economy, but also our politics by uniting the Country around progressive ideas.
A few days ago I tweeted my displeasure at Andrew Yang's "Full" health plan. The tweet went viral and I certainly got "raito'd" by the #YangGang, which I thought was great. With over 150 responsive tweets, I would estimate that MAYBE two weren't #HumanityFirst. Nicely done!
To summarize my discontent, I see Yang's position as very soft on his commitment to universal affordability.

Having processed for a few days and having thought things over, I am still disappointed, but I want the #YangGang to know I stand firm on my commitment to the campaign!

Hey #YangGang

I wanted to make a small thread about the state of the election as I see it.

I've noticed alot of negativity around the campaign and I honestly dont see why.
The race began with over two dozen contenders. At that time, Yang was a complete unknown, and almost all conventional wisdom predicted he would have suspended his campaign at this point.

Hes currently 5th in some polling.

Let's look at his competition.
Castro, and Booker have stalled campaigns. Neither have shown any consistent growth, and both have failed to generate a large following.

As for Steyer, his entire campaign was contingent upon his wealth. Bloomberg has made him redundant.

THREAD: As my #PledgeForHumanity yesterday, I spent the day with Louisiana #YangGang volunteering at a home for the homeless. It's been in operation for almost 17 years. The founder who owns and runs it is an amazing woman named Francis Seymore. It's called the House of Serenity.
It's inspiring how much good one person can do. Francis was living in California when she decided to buy a place in Ponchatoula, LA that could be a shelter from homelessness. Running the place is a month to month expense she just manages to cover. In her words, God provides.
She knows there are poverty-targeted programs that are supposed to be helping places like hers with expenses, and yet despite being the only shelter for many miles around, she gets nothing. That money is controlled by politicians who apparently feel there are better uses for it.

THREAD written before qualifying poll: "Rumor was wrong. Monmouth poll wasn't enough to qualify @AndrewYang for 6th debate. If he doesn't, chance to win plummets…

If so, it'd be a cruel waste of #YangGang energy NOT to GET ORGANIZED & keep building #HumanityFirst movement…
…Yang's vision of
-Universal Basic Income
-Human-Centered Capital
-#HumanityFirst and
-#MATH

isn't going anywhere, & it's up to us to become a REAL, powerful political movement to reshape the landscape of American politics & society for GOOD.

We've arrived at a moment where…2
…WE, as the #YangGang may need to THINK HARDER.

We need think hard about HOW we've tried building our movement so far

HOW to communicate most effectively

and most importantly: WHAT power is, fundamentally.

I believe the answer to that question is ORGANIZATION and FUNDING…3

.@AndrewYang's #opioid policy is completely divorced from fact. It would do nothing to reduce ODs, which are driven by illegal drugs, & would exacerbate harm to #pain patients already slammed by unnecessary disability & rising rates of #suicide.
For a #math guy, @AndrewYang has failed to plot reductions in #opioid scripts & rising rates of OD. If he had, he would've found that reducing scripts has done nothing to slow ODs which are driven by illegal drugs.
#AndrewYang's #opioid policy would have "a modest effect, at best, on the number of #opioid overdose deaths in the near future," according to complex mathematical modeling. Yang's campaign is centered on his claim that he'd base policies on statistical evidence.

THREAD: A lesson on DNC primaries, voter engagement and recruitment, and how to deal with negative press or social media commentary about your candidate. This will become more and more important as time goes on, but it's already become a borderline recruitment crisis. (1)
#YangGang is in it to win it. That's why we win every online poll, why the media comment on the enthusiasm of @AndrewYang's supporters constantly, and why we're able to trend hashtags like it ain't no thang. But there's a dark side to enthusiasm, and it's becoming a threat. (2)
If someone backing another candidate approaches you with an aggro comment, how much do you love it? I know we've gotten into it with Berners and MAGA chuds left and right, but we can't afford to rabidly attack ANYONE right now, especially as Yang rises in popularity. (3)

Okay you want to talk about a welfare safety net? Let’s talk about a welfare safety net. A thread on welfare, from a kid who grew up on food stamps. /1 #yang #yanggang #yang2020 #andrewyang #HumanityFirst #yangbeatstrump #ubi #DemDebate
There are 83 overlapping federal welfare programs, and all of them together make up the largest budget item in the US. This is all means-tested welfare that excludes Medicaid and Social Security, the total comes out to about 1.03 trillion. /2
For comparison, Social Security cost $725 billion, non-war defense cost $540 billion, and Medicare cost $480 billion. (All of these numbers are from a Senate Budget Committee Report in 2011) /3

@AndrewYang What I really want the #YangGangFamily to understand ...ANYONE specifically talking to us about our own issues different to yours is NOT PANDERING...It's pandering when it's all about style (sounding cool, playing hiphop, photo ops etc..) and ZERO SUBSTANCE..no fake interest.

#HologramTHREAD: Deprogramming Americans

#YangGang @AndrewYang #Yang2020 #ISupportYang

In 6+ months of conversation on Twitter (aka "arguments"), I've had many head-desk moments when the exact same topic comes up moments later.

After 7,000+ tweets, it occurs to me ...
We are taking this from the standpoint of "educating" people, but that's not right.

We are "deprogramming" them.

Americans have been PROGRAMMED to believe a bunch of complex distortions of reality by hearing these things all their lives.

A common one:
I'm sure Dave, Dave's parents, and Dave's ancestors all believe some version of that trope. After all, it is in the Bible! This is one of the cornerstones of the "Christian Work Ethic" that drove western society to great heights through the Industrial Revolution.

It isn't true.

An open letter to Mr. @AndrewYang & Campaign, #YangGang, & #HumanityFirst:

I was raised in poverty, in California. As a young child, I remember cold winter nights in the Mojave desert, and curling up under a single ragged blanket to keep warm on a bare wooden bed.
I remember being a little hungry at times. I never wanted for comfort, though, as this was the life I knew; and I never knew, then, how my mother worried that I might not survive the night, checking on me to see that I was warm. We couldn't afford more blankets.
I never knew how her stomach was sometimes far more empty, to make sure that my siblings and I could eat.

If I were to post what I really need, the sum is practically incalculable. I was sued and defaulted while I was homeless, my debt consolidation has one last settlement I can't break, my 6 mos same as cash tires are now crazy expensive since I didn't get it paid off in time.
But I prioritize- I need my car payment current and my insurance. $720 was that number and already almost half has been raised.

I am touched, I AM grateful. Someone so isolated like me is not often touched by others kindness, let alone en masse. I didn't expect it, I hope
people can see that I, too, help others whenever I can. I can't give the elderly neighbors rides without my car on the up and up either. They are low income as well and have noone else to ask.

I gather free materials from cl & fb to "fix" my "house", with the leaky roof, saggy

Hey @PeteButtigieg while you're up there smirking/laughing @ #AndrewYang, remember this - I've played by the rules, worked all my life & been a good person. EVERYTHING I had, I lost in the financial crisis - my beautiful home, it was my pride, my marriage crumbled, my pay was...
cut in half. It took me 9 years to recover. While myself & countless Americans were left to languish for years, car makers who've automated their factories/cut jobs/left the US for years were bailed out along w/ the criminals in the big banks to the tune of trillions...
Yet, for you, it's laughable when @AndrewYang speaks of bailing out Americans, propping up communities, restoring Main St economies from the bottom up with the thing that saved big banks, CASH. It's laughable to you because elitist politicians, in their Messiah-complex...

#MyYangStory I grew up in poverty with two disabled parents. I watch them struggle with their measly $1,157/mo from SSI and the dehumanizing conditions to receive the resources they need to survive. When I told them about Yang's #FreedomDividend 1/
They were very excited and hopeful to be emancipated from demeaning means-testing, the welfare cliff and fear of losing resources. Bernie says that people inherently want to work, and I believe that is true. But my disabled mom & dad do not want to work for the Fed Gov't. 2/
With the FD, my parents would essentially be doubling their income each month ($2k/month), while still receiving their housing assistance & medicare. My dad would be able to learn to sell things online, my mom would love to have a farm stand & be less afraid to volunteer. 3/

Welfare woes: A #HologramThread

Some of the #YangGang know I have been dealing with a daughter who had a severe mental breakdown earlier this year. She has been diagnosed with a pretty terrible disorder, and she needs to be on disability. We've been trying for that since April.
There's a massive Catch 22 in how things work. You see, she quit her job, so she's not eligible for unemployment. In fact, her employer changed her status to "disciplinary termination," so they wouldn't even hire her back. She had just gotten her Medical Assitant (MA) cert, but
the hospital now considers her a risk in that position. This is honestly a fair assessment, but changing her status to terminated screwed her out of a variety of possible benefits.

The first problem we ran into was simply CARE. A mental disorder requires a certain type of

Hey, #YangGang I want to know something really personal, but first I will share a story with you. A couple of months ago, I was close to death. Now I was perfectly healthy in the physical sense, but my mental health was shot to pieces.
A couple of years ago, I had been diagnosed with severe depression, but 2 months ago it had worsened to the point of me getting ready for it to take me. I started to make plans for what to do with my belongings and to get ready to say goodbye to the meagre friends I had left.
Around this time, I also was a huge Bernie fan because I thought he was the best chance for my own country, Aus. I had heard of @AndrewYang, but I didn't really know him. So I see some interactions on Twitter between #YangGang and my pages I followed.

This is Day 2 of my mission to convince Bernie supporters of why an Andrew Yang presidency would be better for them and their families’ wellbeing. Yesterday, I spoke about financial security. Today, I will go at length about education [Thread]
Let’s start by acknowledging the extent of both candidates’ education plans. Bernie’s publicly known plans for education are to introduce universal pre-k, tax-payer funded tuition for public universities, cancelling all student debt, and throwing wads of cash at the k-12 system
Andrew also supports universal pre-K, but is ardently against free college. Instead, he opts to give everyone a Universal Basic Income, drastically lower the cost of college of those who want to go, cancel much of the student debt, and make structural change to the k-12 system

Im on a mission now to convince Bernie supporters, like I was previously, about how much better an Andrew Yang presidency would be for them and their families wellbeing. Everyday, Im going to cover one policy/belief difference between the two. Today is financial security.[Thread]
So first, both patriots have a deep sense of duty to the average American family. They each want Americans to have more money in their pockets at the end of the day. Bernie wants to achieve this with a federal minimum wage increase of $15 an hour, combined w/Medicare4All
Andrew Yang also wants Medicare4All, but instead of doubling the current federal minimum wage, he wants a Universal Basic Income of $1000 per month, per individual over the age of 18, with no other conditions. You would not need to have an official job to get this money.

You need to read this post about how @AndrewYang's campaign deradicalized someone that so many others just want to either write off or further radicalize. Not left, not right, forward, means bringing people back out of the depths of destructive hate.

reddit.com/r/YangForPresi…
I see a debate between Dems who believe white voters no longer matter and the focus should be on people of color, and the GOP who believe only white people matter. Meanwhile Yang is saying this goes deeper than color. There are Americans being driven into extremism by scarcity.
Instead of writing off those who voted for Trump as racist hate-mongering deplorable bigots, let's put a floor under them. Let's put resources into their hands. Let's end their daily survival stress so they can breathe freely, because existential anxiety is the enemy, not color.
