It's the Chinese giant,

TikTok 🤯

TikTok got more traffic than all Google properties combined 😅

Now how did this madness happen?

THE TIKTOK SUPER ADDICTIVE ALGORITHM

Now what magic does it do?

It's follows a product principle called, "Hooked"

I don't want to go crazy on it,

But it has a very important part called the, " Variable reward " + "Simple Action"

Let me explain,

The moment you open the app,

Based on your interests, a video is shown ( usually one of the viral ones )

You can continue to watch it or reject it by swiping,

And when you are swiping without watching for long,

The algorithm understands if you liked the video or not

Let's say after 2 - 3 swipes,

You end up watching a video full.

The next swipe will lead to a video which is similar to that or

A video which a lot of other users similar to you liked,

The more you swipe, better the algorithm understands you.

And guess what happens?

You are hooked 😅

Now why is this important?

You see when it comes to google,

It's intent based i.e. you only visit google when you have something to search.

You go to fb or Instagram when you want to connect with friend's,

But to go to tiktok you need nothing

You just have to be bored,

and algorithm will help you find content you will enjoy

It's fascinating how it has changed the way content is being consumed.

Now here is one more fact that makes me go bonkers.

TikTok almost gets no traffic from India, from its 200M+ users,

Obviously due to the ban.

Still managed to beat Google 😅

As a marketer and founder, I am super hopeful tiktok ban is lifted,

So that we have one more channel to serve ads 😂
