Sarah Weddington was just 25 years old when she filed the complaint in Roe v. Wade in a federal court in Austin Texas in 1970, and just 27 years old when she argued it before the Supreme Court in 1972. She died yesterday at 76. 1/
This is the cover of her book "A Question of Choice," published in 1992. I read it in college and it has graced my bookshelf ever since. I held it up when I gave a short talk in support of Roe outside the Supreme Court on December 1 of this year. 2/
This is the book's dedication. 3/
This is the first page of Chapter 1, "Beginnings," where she talks about obtaining an illegal abortion in 1967. 4/
This paragraph appears at the end: "This book has a final page, but the story of Roe will never end. It is the story of the women of this country and their continuing efforts to push back the barriers that have limited their decisions and circumscribed their freedoms;... 5/
it is a story lived daily by countless women and the men who care about them. Increasing numbers of people are rallying to protect not just the words of Roe, but what we wanted those words to mean in our lives." 6/
Rest in power, sister, and thank you so much for everything you did for us. END

Here is a little mini-thread thread about pronouns. 1/8
Once, a few years ago, I was participating in a nationwide discussion, on Zoom, that was supposed to be about addressing racism in America. 2/8
At one point, we all got into break-out rooms with 2 or 3 participants. I got into my breakout room with one guy. He started out by saying his name and his pronouns. 3/8
Here is a fun story, in thread-form, about something that happened a few years ago on FB. A man named Kenneth kept not listening to terves who were attempting in good faith to educate him with well-sourced research papers. 1/8
Kenneth kept whining that all the sources being provided were too long and complicated. So I wrote this for him. I decided to revive it here today, and I would like to now dedicate it to Seth. 2/8
"Here is a very brief essay. I will call it, 'For Kenneth and Other Dudes who Don't Like it When Women Stand Up for Ourselves.'... 3/8

I understand that we do not have the kind of money that buys complicity. We are not the Denton’s law firm, which in 2019 published a remarkable document outlining its strategy of getting “gender identity” enshrined in law using tactics of stealth and manipulation...
In a massive blow to women's reproductive rights, a near total ban on abortion went into effect in Texas today after the Supreme Court failed to act on an emergency request to halt the law from taking effect. No surprise there. But here's what's interesting to me about it ...
Writing for @nprpolitics, @NinaTotenberg writes: "The Texas law, passed in May, bans all abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy - well before many women even know they are pregnant." npr.org/2021/09/01/103…
