A very critical piece that is often missed when explaining the conflict in Ethiopia right now is the false image given to #TPLF as the underdog.

#TPLF is a 47 years old armed group that was engaged in guerilla fighting against the government for 17 years (1966 to 1991).

TPLF managed to overthrow the government along with other armed groups and ruled repressive for 27 years ( 1991 to 2018).

During its rule, it controlled the economy, politics, and the military often keeping Tigrayan loyal at key positions.

Needless to say, it was looting the country's resources, rigging elections, arresting or killing dissidents, and being implicated in large-scale human rights violations.

It was ousted from power in 2018 following strong pressure from the public and civil disobedience.

This led to the rise of Abiy Ahmed, a 42-year-old who implemented a range of reforms including releasing prisoners, inviting armed groups into the country, and a range of economic reforms.

The #TPLF in its part retreated to its strong support base in Tigray where it continued to set new plans to destabilize the country and return to power.

The #TPLF is led by old guards who are mostly above 60 years old and who have held a personal grudge against PM Abiy for being stripped of their powers and economic benefits.

After all, the #TPLF leaders, affiliates, & Tigray elites have enjoyed an undue advantage and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle through their newly found wealth-owning several buildings, doing illegal Trade, and corrupt practices to empty out public funds through corrupt practices.

#TPLF are the old guards who have plotted their way back to power using the false pretense of the " Tigrayans are under attack " narrative while in reality, it's the #TPLF that was under attack.

Here are some of the leading Old guards at #TPLF and their track record

Getachew Assefa: Age 65 to 70

Former Spy Chief during the TPLF rule, who has been charged with grave human rights abuses including Killings, Abduction, and torture.

He has fled to Tigray in 2018 and took a post as a central committee member for the #TPLF

General Tsdakan Gebretensae (68)

A long-time TPLF commander since 1976, He has been the Ethiopian Army Chief for 10 years until early 2000.
He was later hired by the UK as an advisor to South Sudan and engaged in business activity and owns multiple assets including buildings.

General Tadesse Worede: (71)
an Amry commander who has been a key figure in the TPLF guerilla days and Ethio Eriteria war 1998-2000.

Tadesse is currently the commander of the #TPLF army which has been implicated in grave war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Debretsion Gebremichael ( 69)

Joined the #TPLF in the 1970s and specialized in radio communications and propaganda activities.

He was Deputy Director of the intelligence, Minister for Communication and Telecom, and deputy Prime Minister during the TPLF rule.

Debretsion personifies "the strong ties between Ethio Telecom, the intelligence apparatus, and the Ministry of Communications," according to Human Rights Watch report in 2014.

We can go on and on to go through the list of the TPLF leaders to showcase who is the #TPLF and what they truly represent.

#TPLF leaders are a corrupt group of old men who are attempting to get back to power which they have enjoyed for 27 years.

#TPLF Leaders are hell-bent on returning to power to destroy Ethiopia as a country, regardless of how many lives are lost for the #TPLF leaders to quench their thirst for power and revenge.

One thing should be clear, the War in #Ethiopia, is a war between the old guards, the #TPLF, and the young who are tired of TPLF.

The war is waged by the entrenched TPLF elites who refuse to relinquish their power and the new generation that is tired of #TPLF exploitation.

The TPLF spokesperson Getachew Reda has said it best when he stated "the TPLF...is ready to go to hell and back to destroy Ethiopia as a country if that is what it takes to avenge their

We should all feel sad for the 10s of thousands of Tigrayan you who are dying in vain and for innocent lives being lost due to the dying wish of old men who wants to see #Ethiopia burnt in hell if they can't rule over it.

It's time to end the suffering of mothers who are losing their children in this senseless war waged by #TPLF old men.

We should say #Nomore for the youth to perish themselves for dying old men who can't accept losing power and stand with #Ethioipian people against #TPLF.
