92% of goals fail.

How to defy the odds and achieve your goals in 2022:
Ever since I was 13 years old, my Dad would tell me the same thing:

"Set a goal so big it'll blow your mind."

This isn't just a cliche that you can do anything you want in this world.
Small goals set limits on what you can achieve.
Here's why big goals matter:

1) You are forced out of your comfort zone

2) You are forced to find creative solutions because a "normal" approach won't work

3) Putting what you want into the world makes it more likely to happen
Now, big goals are a good first step.

But they miss a key part of the process.

Here is my 3 part system👇
1) Find your North Star

North Star = what you want

Make it specific.

Make it constrained to a time period.

Examples:

• Earn $1mm in 2022
• Add 10 pounds of muscle in 2022
• Make 5 new deep friendships in 2022

You now know what success is.
2) Find your Why

Why do you want this?

This the most important part of the exercise.

Because over the weeks and months, you will want to give up.
A strong Why is the difference between a failed New Year's resolution and achieving what you want.
3) Find your How

Now you know what you want and why you want it.

So how will you get there?

Build a system with monthly targets.

And weekly actions or daily habits.

A guide to making these habits stick:

Here's an example from my 2022 goals:

North Star: Meet 24 new "forces of nature" in 2022

"Forces of nature" = people with uncommon hustle and smarts. Immediately obvious they crush anything they set their mind too.
The Why:

• I get energy from meeting new people

• Conversations are the fastest way to learn

• Improve your network, improve your outcomes
The How:

• Send 1 new cold DM / week

• Organize an NYC meetup in Q1 2022

• Default to action: meet Twitter friends IRL, reach out when I love their content or company
To recap:

1) Set a North Star

2) Find your Why

3) Find your How

Lastly, focus ruthlessly on 5 goals or less.

The more goals you set, the less likely you are to achieve them.
And remember:

Your North Star is the destination.

But if you forget to enjoy the process you will end up achieving a goal and asking yourself:

Now, what?

The 10 most powerful insights I discovered this year:
Reframe Your Day

"Instead of feeling that you lost the day after a bad morning,

Reframe each day as 4 quarters:

• morning
• midday
• afternoon
• evening

If you blow one quarter, just get back on track for the next one.

Fail small, not big."

- Gretchen Rubin
Time Billionaires

1 million seconds = 11 days

1 billion seconds = 31 years

We all admire people like Warren Buffet.

But he's 91 years old.

No matter how much money you have, you can't buy another billion seconds.

Cherish it.

Your grandma never let you eat ice cream before dinner.

Here's "Granny's Rule" and why it will change how you work👇
I don't know about you but sometimes I just want ice cream before dinner.

But Grandma never allowed it.

Granny's Rule = eat your vegetables before you get your dessert
In work and life, vegetables are hard tasks.

Dessert are easy ones.

Only do hard things?

You end up miserable.

Only do easy things?

You never grow.

Steve Jobs killed BlackBerry.

By creating a cult and inventing new rules

Here's the breakdown and why it matters👇
In January 2007, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsille are probably sippin a coffee sitting in their frosted glass office when they see IT.

IT is the moment Steve Jobs reveals the iPhone to the world.
Mike and Jim don't know yet...

But the BlackBerry is doomed.

Apple's "Jesus Phone" would soon take over the world.

McDonald's sells over 6 million burgers every day.

But why should you care?

Here are 5 lessons worth their weight in grease and why it matters👇
1) Kill Choice

“If we gave people choice, there would be chaos."

Originally, "McDonald's Barbecue" serves pulled pork sandwiches, burgers and more.

But the McDonald's brothers start inspecting receipts to find best sellers.

And they cut the menu from 25 to 9 items.
Why this matters:

So you have a clothing brand that sells 100 options of t-shirts and sweatshirts.

I land on your website and have no idea what to buy.

If I have this problem, other people do too.

So you can analyze what sells best and cut the rest.

Choices kill profits.

How a $19 billion startup began by accident

Here's a story you don't want to miss👇
Jan Koum meets Brian Acton in 1998.

They spend 9 years working together at Yahoo and become good friends.

But in 2007, they both leave Yahoo with some cash and no plans.
At first Acton and Koum apply to Facebook

…and fail.

In failing they become proud members of the “Facebook reject club”.
