Prep to go...
Charge cell phones, pack chargers
Include power pack [if you have 1]
Get prepped to go. Including pets.
Gather meds, insurance papers, anything you'll need.
If there's time take quick vids of all rooms in home. Include drawers/closets. Any upgrades. Do the outside of home, all sides. Don't forget sheds/garage/attic take pics/vids there too.
If car is in garage, back it out & turn it around so you're heading out. Know how to open garage door manually. [power goes out when poles/lines go down] So know how to open it yourself. Throw in "to go" gear.
Have your pets ready to go. ALWAYS put them in a carrier/crate if you have'm never carry. Even the most placid pet will bolt when they smell smoke. Take food, leash/halter, bed/bankie, comfort toy & their meds.
If your pets are cats or small dogs & you don't have a crate do NOT carry them. Grab a pillowcase or backpack & put them in there. No they won't be happy but to bad...they can complain while you're driving away.
Plz check to see if anyone who works nights is aware of the current situation. In the case of an evac order wake them if need be! You might be saving a life.
Also check with your older/elderly neighbors to ensure they're aware of the new warning/order. Let them know they can ride with you since some surrender their license & will have no way to evacuate.
Important....if evacuating
If you are leaving as a caravan? Do a head count before you go. With all the activity/talking, someone may have left to use the bathroom & you don't want to leave anyone behind.
Last 2 important things...
Leave early, there's bound to be lots of traffic and you MUST stay ahead of the fire. Keep water with you & masks. If you run into a traffic jam smoke will get into your cars.
And lastly....
Let someone know where you are heading - the route you plan to take, and text them when you've arrived. Don't call...text. Calls drain batteries quickly.
Before I head back to #Boulder, #Nebraska, here's the forecast laid out by the Omaha #NWS. Please think before you go out tonight or tomorrow because breathing will make your lungs burn/hurt outside.
O'Neill....don't go out tonight, Not with an expected 32 below wind chill. It will only take minutes for frost bite then hypothermia to set it. Don't risk it.
East/S.E. #Nebraska
Plz rethink going out #NYE & opt to stay home. The conditions will be down right dangerous & even life threatening. IF you insist, at the very least take thick blankets, warm clothes, charged cells & a survival kit with you.
Predicted snowfall amounts. Besides the above have battery cables, a mini shovel, cat liter/sand for traction & a headlamp, flashlight. Let someone know where you're going & what route.

Check if all neighbors are up. Lights on?
Check any elderly neighbors...they may not know.
Off to take them with you...plz? Some don't drive.

I've had a couple of people ask me tonight about the communication towers. I've done a "today" overview of what they went thru. Plus a close up...I'm happy to say, they all look like they're hang'n in there!
Extreme fire behavior in Branch IV with afternoon S-SW winds. Those of you in this & the surrounding area of Branch IV need to be hyper vigilant today b/c your life could depend on it. The wind can turn fires in a second so do not let your guard down.
Yes...I know what you're thinking. You don't even know where Branch IV...well you will. I want everyone in [or who knows someone in] this dangerous erratic area to keep these maps handy. Ok?
There are 3. One that shows Branch 4, the PIO & the Evac area map.
