So this man whose genotype was AS was dating a woman whose genotype was also AS and they had no idea. Nobody cared to ask. Love was too sweet. It was when they were deeply invested in each other and were already planning to get married and how many children they were going to-

-have that they ran genotype and other tests. The woman was AS and the man was AS too but he hid it, he told her he was AA.

He couldn’t imagine her with anyone else, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if that happened. So he lied, that his result came out and he was AA. Every other thing came out fine and they got married but problem started when they gave birth to their first child, he was-

-always sick, he died, the conscience of the husband was judging him already and he had to open up to his wife, he had to explain to her what really happened.

He told her that he himself was also AS just as she is but he lied to her bcos he couldn’t imagine his life without her, he couldn’t picture her with any man other than himself, he is sorry for being so selfish, with tears flowing dwn his eyes, he was kneeling and shedding tears.

His wife was crying too, why hold such information from her, she loved him dearly but his offense was grave, his selfishness cost them their son, she told him she needed space, she needed to be away from him to process things.

She left the next day to her parents house, she didn’t tell them exactly what went wrong, so they were mainly consoling her for the lose of her child.

Her husband couldn’t live with himself anymore so he went to his best friend’s place, they talked and he narrated everything to him.

His best friend was an angel he didn’t judge him, he told him (the husband) that there is this friend of his, that if there was anyway they could go about this issue he should know, so his best friend who was my very good friend called me on phone & told me if I could come over-

-to his place, that there was something really important we needed to discuss, I said I was very busy but I did be there in 1hr time. As I promised I made it there, he then narrated the story to me, I told the man to clean his tears, that there is hope.

That something could be done. That yes, it is possible for them to have AA children. His eyes was wide open, how !!! How sir, almost grabbing my legs, I told him to calm down and take his sit that I will explain.

I told him yes it is possible to have AS and even AA children even if both parents are AS.

That it is called “Preimplantation genetic diagnosis”. That it is done using in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and he would need a whole lot of money as the procedure is very expensive but the man didn’t even let me finish and said he was all in.

It took time but he reconciled with his wife, they really loved each other. He apologized again for his selfishness and told her there was a way they could have AA children, she told him hope it’s not one of those ways he wants to use and lure her back to him he said, No.

He called me and gave the phone to his wife and I explained it to her. They hugged with tears in their eyes and last week they welcomed their healthy baby. And they are happily married ever since.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a technique which is used to analyze/screen embryos genetically for various defects before they are being transferred into the woman’s womb.

In general, PGD offers couples at risk (eg AS couples) the chance to have unaffected children without having to face termination of the pregnancy due to the presence of the defects.

In PGD, they can fertilize like 20 eggs gotten from the woman and test them. The ones that are let say SS will be thrown away and the ones that are AS or AA will then be transferred to the woman’s womb where it will develop and she would give birth to healthy children.

It’s important to know that PGD is not always 100% accurate. Sometimes the couples are asked to run amniocentesis to confirm genetic results. But one thing is clear, PGD provides couples who have a high probability of giving birth to children with genetic defects the chance of-

-having healthy babies with no issues.

And that’s how’s this man remained the woman he loved so much and couldn’t live without. Like I pointed out earlier. The procedure is expensive and requires high level of expertise.

If you are into someone, it’s important you know their genotype not until when you can’t seem to let go of that person again because you have put in just too much. If you’re AA then there is no need. Prevention is always better than cure. But if-

-you are AS and you are already married to someone who is also AS without knowing. Then that’s PGD comes in.
